Microsoft launches the Nokia X2, a 4.3-inch, $135 addition to its family of Android phones

Microsoft launches the Nokia X2, a 4.3-inch, $135 addition to its family of Android phones

Nokia Microsoft has added another device to its Android-powered ‘X’ family after it announced the Nokia X2. The phone becomes the first device launched by Nokia since its devices and services division was bought by Microsoft — which indicates a level of commitment to Android, despite Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform.

The X2 sports a 4.3-inch touch display, which is slightly larger than the original Nokia X, while it is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor. There’s a five-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a more basic front-facing camera for video calling and selfies. It is dual-SIM, and includes 15GB of on-device storage for multimedia, photos, apps and more.

The device is priced at €99 (US$135). The company says it is “available immediately in select countries globally” — we’ve reached out to clarify exactly which markets that refers to.

Nokia’s HERE maps and Mix Radio service come pre-loaded, as you might expect, in addition to Skype, Outlook.com, OneDrive and OneNote. The device looks much like other ‘X’ devices, except for its new translucent cover, which is available in “glossy green”, orange and black — with plans to introduce “glossy yellow”, white and matt dark grey colors in the future.

The Nokia X, Microsoft’s first Android-powered device, was announced back at Mobile World Congress in February. Its follow-up, and the second device in the X range, is the Nokia XL, a 5.5-inch version that was unveiled in May.

The Nokia X was originally priced at $120, while the XL went on sale for $150.
