Love the dual-personality of Windows 8 or hate it, there’s no denying that the Modern interface is beautiful. Working in it is, from my experience, also quite fantastic albeit with some caveats. The Firefox team has been hard at work coming up with a version of its browser for the Metro Modern UI and today we get a peek at where things sit:
The preview version, which you can download (installer link) if you’re running the RTM of Windows 8, contains support for Firefox Sync, Windows 8 gestures and Charms. Though the team is quick to point out that it’s not a finished product:
“Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be adding more features, tightening up Windows integration, improving performance and responsiveness, and finishing up all the necessary work to deliver a first class Firefox experience for Windows 8.”
By the looks of things, the team is well on its way to that “first class Firefox experience”. At the very least, it’s leaps and bounds ahead of Google’s offering with Chrome, which hasn’t impressed me at all save for the fact that it’s exactly the same as it is everywhere else.
