Silicon Valley startup M.dot has picked up $600,000 in seed funding as it gears up to launch its mobile website creation service.
Revealed through a regulatory filing, the only investor that is mentioned in the document is ‘super angel’ Mike Maples Jr from FLOODGATE.
However, we know the investment was led by Archimedes Labs, a Palo Alto, CA-based incubator started by TechCrunch co-founder Keith Teare.
UPDATE: In total, the startup is backed by $700,000 in early-stage funding. They first raised $100,000 from Archimedes Labs in July, and the recent $600,000 round was led by Floodgate, joined by SV Angel and ange investors Sean Jacobsohn, a partner at Emergence Capital, and Harris Barton, the SF 49ers football player-turned-investor.
We’ve reached out to M.dot co-founders Dominik Balogh and Pavel Serbajlo (who also kickstarted PoweryBase together) to learn more about the round.
M.dot hasn’t talked much about its upcoming service yet, but the startup’s current placeholder website reveals that it’s ‘coming soon’.
From the looks of it, the product will enable businesses to create a mobile-optimized website from an iPhone or iPod touch. Users will be able to pick a template and add business information (location, pictures, prices, opening hours and whatnot) to pages straight from their Apple smartphone.
That makes M.dot sound a lot like Zapd, and the startup will also face competition from a plethora of similar services, such as dudamobile, GoMobi, GinWiz, Wixmobile, Mobify, Onbile, Wapple, SnippetSpace and many more.
Previous FLOODGATE investments include Twitter, website creation software maker Weebly, Playdom, Gowalla, Milk, Kno, Reputation.com and Chegg.
