Fresh from the launch of video chat on its iOS app, WhosHere has announced that its location-based chat app has finally arrived on Android.
Founded in 2008, WhosHere claims more than five million people globally have used the iOS app to make connections with local people. It lets users make spontaneous connections on-the-go with those nearby, for free, through text, calls and video (iOS only), tapping the GPS functionality on a user’s smartphone.
Users must provide a screen name after which they can share as much personal information as they like, so it can be as anonymous or open as the user wishes.
“There’s been a groundswell of interest in WhosHere for Android ever since Google launched the Nexus One in January 2010,” says WhosHere CEO and co-founder Bryant Harris. “We are 100% committed to our community of users and it is only fitting to expand the platforms we support. WhosHere’s availability on Android expands our reach and unlocks a new universe of connections for users.”
It’s not clear as of yet when, or if, video calls will be arriving on the Android version of the app, but version 1.0 of WhosHere is available to download now.
