Apple has started rolling out its iTunes Match service to owners of the Apple TV. The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple reported that the yet-to-be-officially-launched service showed up in a new Music section on his Apple TV today and posted the following screenshots:
Although the option is available to all Apple TV users, non-developers are unable to activate it because it requires the installation of iTunes 10.5.1, which is currently a developer-only beta, according to a report by Eric Slivka of MacRumors.
Currently in beta, iTunes Match is supposed to be a paid feature of the recently launched iCloud service from Apple. For a yearly fee of $24.99 a year, Apple will store all your music in the cloud (including the ones that you haven’t bought from the iTunes Store) and stream it to all your iCloud-enabled devices.
The service was supposed to be launched in the United States at the end of October, but Apple missed its self-imposed deadline. From this latest development, it is clear that Apple is not yet done testing all aspects of its new music storage and streaming solution and we have a bit more of a wait ahead of us before we can lay our hands on it.
