iPhone 8 may not arrive until next year

Analysts from Deutsche Bank noted in a report from ValueWalk that Apple’s next iPhone launch may be delayed until sometime next year.

That’s from sources at Apple’s manufacturing partner Foxconn, who said that we might only see an iPhone 7s and 7s Plus, which will basically be incremental upgrades to the 2016 model and its larger sibling.

The delay is said to be chalked up to “key component shortages and technical challenges,” but it’s unclear as to exactly what might be holding things up. Sure, we’re expecting multiple models including one with a new curved OLED screen, dual cameras and a camera beneath the display – and we even heard last month that shipping may only begin several weeks after the usual annual September reveal – but it’s not like Apple to slip up on its release cycle.

A previous report from two weeks ago, from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, pointed to production of the iPhone 8 being scheduled to start only in October or November. That may well see the device hit store shelves in 2018.

Of course, Apple generally doesn’t talk much about its upcoming devices until it’s ready with something to show, so we’ll have to wait and see if these rumors hold any water.
