International iPad Launches Pushed Back A Month

International iPad Launches Pushed Back A Month

hero 20100127 Rumour: UK iPad Prices RevealedIf you are one of the people living outside of the US that are looking to secure yourself an Apple iPad, it looks like you are going to have to wait another month.

Apple published a full press release on their Press Info website saying:

Although we have delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week, demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as more people see and touch an iPad™. We have also taken a large number of pre-orders for iPad 3G models for delivery by the end of April.

Faced with this surprisingly strong US demand, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May. We will announce international pricing and begin taking online pre-orders on Monday, May 10. We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason—the iPad is a runaway success in the US thus far.

May 10th it is then, at least now customers have a date to put in their diaries should they wish to pre-order.

It’s good a good position for Apple to be in, 500,000 iPad’s sold in one week was certainly above industry estimates, even eclipsing Apple’s expectations. I’m sure the delay in international iPad launches will only increase demand in a way that only Apple seem to be able to pull off.

Apple has also been in for quite a bit of criticism in regards to their blocking of cross-compiling tools like Flash and then the possibility that they will be banning third party analytics services.

I’m sure this release could add a little bit more fuel to the fire.
