IFTTT now works with iOS push notifications and looks great on the iPad

IFTTT now works with iOS push notifications and looks great on the iPad

If you’re a user of popular personal productivity service IFTTT (If This Then That) who also has an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, maybe you’ve wished that you could use iOS push notifications in your recipes. Well, from today you can, and there’s also a new universal version of the iOS app, complete with full iPad support.

Push notifications work exactly the same as any other output from the service. Set up an input (for example, ‘If the Weather Channel says it will rain tomorrow’) and select iOS push notifications as the result. Voila! You’ll get a message on your phone every time the rain’s predicted for the next day.

Now, many of the services that IFTTT supports (such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) already have push notifications within their own apps, but there are also plenty that don’t, so it’s a useful addition to the platform.

Don’t expect an instant ping when something happens – we’re told that most of the recipes refresh every 15 minutes, although push notifications will become faster as more people use them. Push notification-based IFTTT ‘recipes’ can be set up within the iOS app or on the website.

The new iPad-optimized version of the app is a joy to use – lovely to look at and with more space to manage your recipes. Meanwhile, users of all iOS devices get added inspiration in the updated app thanks to the introduction of curated Recipe Collections based around use cases like photography or travel.
