A new product being teased by Google simply called ‘posts’ appears to be a social network that lets you post thoughts directly into search results.
It’s being tested for US presidential candidates in ‘real time’ over the coming months, and will allow them to use a mobile app to post directly in search results about them.
The details are vague, but candidates will be able to sent text, images and video directly to Google and they’ll appear above search results instantly. From there, every post can also be shared to other social networks.
That’s a pretty interesting development, given that the company is backing away from Google+.
By letting presidential candidates post directly into search results, and eventually maybe everyone else, the company is effectively building a social network right in its main product.
The first candidate to use posts appears to be Bernie Sanders who has posted ‘to Google’ with his opinions on topics as far back as December.
Google is hinting that the feature will come to others if the test is successful, opening up a waitlist for future expansion so you can sign up to be invited later on.
