Fleksy finally launches its keyboard app for the Tizen-powered Samsung Gear 2

Fleksy finally launches its keyboard app for the Tizen-powered Samsung Gear 2

Fresh from the news that Fleksy is in the midst of taking its smart keyboard app system-wide on iOS 8, the San Francisco-based startup has launched a brand new keyboard app for text-messaging on the new Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch, four months after it first revealed plans to do so.

Following Samsung’s first Galaxy Gear smartwatch, the Korean giant revealed the second iterations of the wrist-based contraption earlier this year, except the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo run on the Tizen operating system, rather than Android.

After an extended beta period, the new Fleksy keyboard app can now be download from Samsung Apps, with users able to use Fleksy’s predictive keyboard to send text messages from their wrists. The Gear 2 doesn’t support system-wide keyboards, hence why this is restricted to messaging for now.

But surely nobody can type on a miniscule keyboard, right? Fleksy co-founder Ioannis Verdelis disagrees.

“Most people think typing on a smartwatch is impossible – just as they did when the first touchscreen phone came out. Fleksy’s accuracy redefines the possible on wearable tech – and it really has to be seen to be believed. I’m glad to be working with the Samsung ecosystem to show it to the world.”

In addition to its Android app, Fleksy has offered a standalone iOS keyboard alternative for a while too, letting users export text to other services, including Facebook and Twitter. And back in December, the company announced it was ramping up its presence across the iOS ecosystem by opening the Fleksy SDK to third-party services, and it will be joining a slew of third-party keyboard apps on iOS 8 this autumn, when Apple finally opens things up.

Now with an app for the Samsung Gear 2, Fleksy is pushing on with its mission to be everywhere. “We want every owner of a smart device — smartwatches included — to have access to Fleksy, and to enjoy a happy typing experience,” adds Kosta Eleftheriou, Fleksy co-founder and CEO.
