Feedly – Your favourite feeds now on Chrome

Feedly – Your favourite feeds now on Chrome

Feedly ChromeFeedly, the self-billed ‘fun magazine-like start page’ has officially launched their Google Chrome browser extension. The plugin is available to download with the developer builds of Chrome across Windows, Mac and Linux.

Feedly, originally developed as a Firefox extension by Edwin Khodabakchian, has built a legion of supporters for their aesthetically pleasing way of interacting with traditional feeds. The app features close integration with social media such as Twitter, Facebook and Friendfeed. Since it’s launch, one of the most often requested features from users has been cross-browser support (as well as iPhone support)  and the team have been busy with versions of the service for Internet Explorer, Safari and Chrome.

The Feedly team have set up a page on how to get the plugin up and running – an easy process where you need to:

  1. Download and install the Chrome 4.0 Dev Channel: WindowsMacLinux 32-bitLinux 64-bit
  2. Restart Chrome to make sure that you are running the 4.0 version.
  3. Navigate to http://update.feedly.com/release/feedly.crx to install feedly
  4. Click on the feedly icon on the chrome toolbar to load your feedly.

The initial plugin does not currently support the Feedly Mini toolbar, a handy sidebar addition to your browsing which allows quick access to saving and sharing of articles as well as pulling in social media information related to your search queries and page  browsing. The team are also working on Gmail integration which is also not live for the first release.
