Facebook desktop brings Facebook to you with no need for a web browser.

Facebook desktop brings Facebook to you with no need for a web browser.

There exist many desktop applications for managing one’s social networks, Tweetdeck, Seesmic, Socialite, and the list goes on.  Most of those mentioned are used by power users, or those using multiple social networks.

With over 500 million users, Facebook is far and away the leader when it comes to social networks, now there exists a desktop application for those that want to keep up with what’s occurring on one’s Facebook account.

Facebook desktop is a free application for Mac and PC that allows one to bring Facebook to your desktop without having to use a browser.  Updates and stories are pushed straight to you after downloading the application and authorizing it access your Facebook account.

After downloading the application you can configure your notification settings, and your Facebook stream is off and running.  Facebook for desktop will then provide pop-up notifications whenever something new gets posted to your stream, in addition to providing support for inbox messages, group-invites, event-invites, and friend-requests.

In using the Facebook for desktop application, I found the notifications to be anything but intrusive, and certainly one can appreciate not having to constantly check Facebook be it on one’s laptop, desktop, or mobile device, for the latest updates posted to one’s stream.  Note however, that clicking on an update will take you to Facebook to reply, like an item, ect…

Facebook for desktop has produced a slick little video, providing additional information on the application and its features:

If you’re looking for a free and easy to use application to keep up with all that is Facebook, Facebook for desktop is most definitely for you.  Download here, tool around with it, and let us know how you like it.
