Currently Famous: This mobile app mines Twitter for the top trending celebrity stories

It seems Twitter can be whatever you want it to be – from a job-search tool to a real-time bus timetable platform. With that in mind, this latest mobile app promises to help you keep well and truly up-to-date with what’s happening in the celebrity sphere, by using a “sophisticated algorithm” to monitor the microblogging platform.

Launching on both Android and iOS, Currently Famous promises to help you stay on top of what’s trending on Twitter by sending you notifications whenever there’s hot celebrity gossip. It includes charts for both the past hour and the past day, featuring the top fifty celebrity-related news headlines. It’s updated every fifteen minutes with push notifications.

When you click on a story, it opens within the app rather than launching the piece in a new browser:

The 💜 of EU tech

The latest rumblings from the EU tech scene, a story from our wise ol' founder Boris, and some questionable AI art. It's free, every week, in your inbox. Sign up now!

You can also save headlines to read later and share stories through email, Read it Later (now Pocket), Twitter and Facebook, and it lets you scroll through the chart using the ‘up’ and ‘down’ arrows at the top of each story, rather than exiting the article first.

If you’re keen to follow which celebrity stories are being shared and discussed on Twitter, Currently Famous does a pretty good job of keeping you up-to-date. Though if you’re a serious celeb-addict, you’d maybe want to stick to something like PopSugar, which lets users follow their favorite celebrity tweeters alongside photos, news, and gossip.
