Convo has upped the security of its cloud-based business communications service by adding at-rest encryption to its data. Most Web services encrypt their data while in transit, Convo believes its the first cloud collaboration company to incorporate encryption for data that is resting on a server.
Between the NSA surveillance apparatus and hackers looking to steal customer data, company secrets and wreak havoc, these additional layers of encryption are becoming a necessary part of our online lives. This is good news for TNW, too, since we use Convo as our virtual office.
Convo says its data will be encrypted with 256-bit AES while at rest and 256-bit SSL during transfers. Keys are stored in separate locations and “frequently rotated.”
