China Unicom will begin selling the iPhone 4S on March 9th, reports The Loop. The company announced the plans in a release Monday and an Apple spokesperson followed up to confirm the announcement. This marks the second major carrier in China to offer the device and the first additional in that country since the device’s launch.

Apple spokesperson Natalie Harrison spoke to The Loop:

iPhone 4S has been an incredible hit with customers around the world. We’re thrilled to be launching iPhone 4S with China Telecom and can’t wait to get it into the hands of even more customers in China.

We had reported early last month that China Unicom would be losing exclusive access to the iPhone in China due to China Telecom’s imminent regulator approval. China Telecom then indicated that the iPhone 4S would begin being offered as early as February.

Now we have an official date, March 9th, and confirmation that all three sizes, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB will be available. The devices will start at $0 RMB on select contracts and will be available in China Telecom’s authorized retail stores and online with pre-orders beginning March 2nd.

China Mobile is still China’s largest network by far, with more than 645 million active members, ahead of China Unicom at 195 million and China Telecom at 62 million. China Mobile reportedly already has some 10 million iPhone users, despite the fact that it is not an official carrier.
