CHEAP: PlayStation Classic for $30? Don’t mind if I do.

This is legitimately cheap.

CHEAP: PlayStation Classic for $30? Don’t mind if I do.

When Sony revived the PlayStation Classic, it was regarded by many in the gaming chattering classes as a lazy and transparent attempt to cash in on the retro gaming craze. Overwhelmingly, people’s complaints centered on one key issue: the games.

The PlayStation Classic has a bunch of genuinely cracking titles, like the original Grand Theft Auto, Rainbow Six, Resident Evil Director’s Cut, and Tekken 3. It also includes some more obscure gems like Syphon Filer. The problem was there wasn’t enough of them – not for the original $100 asking price. There was also a curious mix of PAL and NTSC-formatting, resulting in sometimes inconsistent playing experiences.

But drop the price of the PlayStation Classic down to $30 with free shipping and those problems become a little bit more tolerable. And that’s exactly what’s happening right now on eBay.

The consoles are brand new and come with a full warranty. I assume that they’re leftover stock from Christmas. It’s the most logical explanation, considering the PlayStation Classic wasn’t exactly the critical and commercial success Sony hoped.

In addition to the built-in games (which are listed here), the PlayStation Classic comes with two wired controllers, so you can indulge in a bit of two-player Tekken action. And as other users have discovered, it’s embarrassingly easy to sideload additional games onto the console.

If you’re tempted, you can pick up a unit here. Be quick though. There’s only a few hundred left!
