Big news: Apple to reveal app approval process, relax iOS dev rules

Apple has been widely criticised for its strict attitude to developers. However, today looks like the company may be starting to relax a little.

In a statement released by the company today, it makes two important announcements that will please iOS developers.

  1. “We are relaxing all restrictions on the development tools used to create iOS apps”. Apple had been criticised by many for block all iOS development tools except its own. This effectively killed the third party dev tool market, which included major players like Adobe. From now, anything goes “…as long as the resulting apps do not download any code. This should give developers the flexibility they want, while preserving the security we need.”
  2. “For the first time we are publishing the App Store Review Guidelines”. Yes, it looks like we’ll finally get to see a bit more detail on the mysterious process by which Apple reviews apps.

This is huge news for the iOS developer community and shows that Apple is willing to listen to the people who make it so much money through app store purchases.

Once we get to actually see the App Store Guidelines and more detail on this announcement, we’ll bring you more news and analysis.
