AT&T launches DirecTV Now service with 120+ channels on Nov 30

AT&T launches DirecTV Now service with 120+ channels on Nov 30

After purchasing DirecTV over a year ago, AT&T is launching a full-fledged TV streaming service to take on cable and other services like Sling TV.

Called DirecTV Now, the service will launch on Wednesday, November 30 in the US, and offers multiple, fancifully named packages pulled from DirecTV’s existing content:

  • Live a Little – $35 / month (60+ channels)
  • Just Right – $50 / month (80+ channels)
  • Go Big – $60 / month (100+ channels)
  • Gotta Have it – $70 / month (120+ channels)
  • HBO and Cinemax – $5 extra each

The company is offering its highest channel package for $35 per month for an unspecified limited time. According to The Verge, this price will last until you cancel your subscription, which sounds like a pretty sweet deal. There’s also a 7-day free trial, and a litany of pre-paid offers for different devices.

That said, it’s not clear which channels exactly are included with the packages, as the DirectTV now website isn’t live yet. Major networks like Disney, ESPN, AMC, Discovery, Univision, and more are included, though the company is still negotiating with CBS and Showtime. There’s also no DVR functionality yet, with that coming somewhere down the pipeline.

DirecTV Now will be available on iOS, Apply TV, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, PC and Mac to start. That doesn’t seem to include Android TV, though Google Cast-enabled LeEco and Vizio TVs will apparently have access. Roku, Samsung Smart TVs, Amazon Fire tablets and more will follow in 2017.
