Apparently there is an enormous sporting event taking place in London at the moment, alongside this is a cultural celebration, known as the London 2012 Festival, that is less well-known. The ArtSpotter application has been refreshed in time to take in this event as well as including some great features for art lovers looking ahead.
We checked out the beta version of ArtSpotter when it was launched late last year. It is an interactive mobile art app which allows users to discover and engage with art venues, exhibitions and street art anywhere in the world.
So, if you have the app and see art you want to comment on in cafes, bars or in galleries, you can choose if you want (or if you’re allowed) to take a pic or not, post a comment and the location and share it with the community.
You can also follow other users to keep up to date with the art world, what’s popular and new in the scene. Users can also collect the spaces and exhibitions they want to group by a theme or city. This makes a nice guide for visitors to a particular place who might be looking for a local view of the arts where they are headed.
Things to see and do
ArtSpotter has also partnered with several organisations and is supported by Danielle Arnaud gallery and Space Station 65.
If you’re in the capital, there’s a lot to explore beyond the London 2012 Festival including London Art Fair next year, Tatton Park Biennial 2012, Art below, University of the Arts, London summer shows and Secret Arts at the Secret Garden Party.
Future additions for the app include artist collaborations and art walks including a street art tour with Love Art London.
ArtSpotter now has one of the largest art locations databases in the world with over 10,000 venues listed in 37 countries. So, whether you like your art in a huge show at Tate Modern or on the streets like the work of Banksy, the new app is a nice way to find out what’s happening nearby or the hidden secrets known and loved by your friends.
