Apple’s WWDC 2012 event sells out in under two hours

Apple’s WWDC 2012 event has sold out in just two hours of tickets being available, the company has just announced.

The company announced the dates for the event at 1:30pm GMT, allowing developers to purchase tickets immediately. By 3:30pm its allocation had sold out.

The tickets, which cost $1599 each, allow developers and Apple enthusiasts to attend the company’s developer conference between June 11 and June 15 at the Moscone Covention Center.

Apple says it will focus on the future of iOS and OS X at the conference, featuring more than 100 technical sessions by Apple engineers.

“The iOS platform has created an entirely new industry with fantastic opportunities for developers across the country and around the world.”

“We have a great WWDC planned this year and can’t wait to share the latest news about iOS and OS X Mountain Lion with developers,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The iOS platform has created an entirely new industry with fantastic opportunities for developers across the country and around the world.”

Apple says that developers will explore the latest innovations, features and capabilities of iOS and OS X Mountain Lion, allowing attendees to “learn how to greatly enhance the functionality, performance, quality and design of their apps.”

Just how quickly the tickets sold out is unknown, but it mirrors the ticket buying behaviour displayed by Google developers for the company’s Google I/O event, where tickets sold out in under 20 minutes.

Google I/O will also be located in the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, commencing on June 27.
