Apple’s iOS 6 will finally let you launch apps from Siri

Apple’s iOS 6 will finally let you launch apps from Siri

Moments ago at WWDC 2012, Apple’s Phil Schiller announced that as part of Apple’s new iOS 6 mobile operating system, its voice-activated assistant Siri will now let you launch apps.

As iOS 6 has finally gone official with a raft of new features, including significant upgrades to Siri, which include the ability for Siri to now answer real-world questions about sports, movies, restaurants and more.

These include phrases like “Who won the latest Lakers game?”, “Find a great place for dinner”, sorting the answers by rating, and showing much more information such as average price and menu type.

Want to play Temple Run? Saying “Play Temple Run” will open the app. Lovely.

Apple has partnered with Yelp for reviews and OpenTable for reservations and can even tell you what’s playing at your local movie theatre. Ask it: “What movies are playing at the Metreon,” Siri will tell you what movies are on, now integrates reviews from Rotten Tomatoes and even allows you to watch trailers.
