Apple to field 415 million iOS devices by end of 2012

Apple is on track to ship 100 million iPhones over the next 12-month span, bringing the total installed base of iOS devices up to 415 million by the end of 2012, according to Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley. The report, summarized by Appleinsider, details several impressive statistics as well as Walkley’s predictions for Apple in the coming year.

According to the report, Apple accounts for 50% of the mobile handset industries profits during the first quarter of 2011. “Our [June] checks indicated continued strong sales of the iPhone 4, as it remained by far the top-selling smartphone at AT&T and Verizon despite the continued popularity of 4G smartphones and several new high-end Android smartphones,” Walkley said.

He indicated that the iPhone 4 was still the number one best-selling iPhone at AT&T and Verizon stores, despite the release of several flagship Android phones.

Apple indicated that there are ‘more than 200 million’ iOS devices in circulation in a press release Thursday. Walkley’s forecast would mean an increase of some 215 million devices, including iPhone, iPad and iPod touch over the next 18 months.
