Apple has decided to exclude Samsung from the development of its upcoming A7 processors, according to The Korea Times. This report falls in line with previous rumors.
Severing more ties with Samsung, Apple will now rely on the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to build its A7 processors. The processors are slated for a 2014 release during the first half of the year.
According to “an executive at one of Samsung’s local partners in Korea,” Apple is now “sharing confidential data” regarding its A7 processors with TSMC, and the manufacturing company has apparently started “ordering its contractors to supply equipment to produce Apple’s next processors using a finer 20-nanometer level processing technology.”
With ever-growing tension, it’s unsurprising that Apple is attempting to lower its dependence on Samsung’s technology. Apple doesn’t want to fuel its competition — it’s the same reason why it removed Google’s default status on iOS.
