Apple has reportedly acquired Swedish software company AlgoTrim, according to a report by Rapidus, unearthed earlier by TechCrunch.
We reached out to Apple earlier who – while stopping short of confirming – did state:
“Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”
So, you can make of that what you will, but it does seem like this acquisition has taken place.
AlgoTrim was founded out of Malmö in Sweden in 2005, and specializes in data compression for mobile devices. So the acquisition would make sense in many ways.
According to Rapidus, Anders Holtsberg, co-founder and head of software development at AlgoTrim, recently upped sticks and moved to within a short distance of Apple’s Cupertino HQ. Rapidus claims he confirmed he is now working for Apple, but he wouldn’t say any more than that.
Apple acquired another Swedish tech company back in 2010, a facial recognition firm called Polar Rose.
