Amazon’s new Kindle Paperwhite starts shipping today, the company announced. The e-reader is available in two versions, including 3G-connected model, which customers can order now on Amazon’s site.
Both models boast higher image resolution, with “62% more pixels, 25% higher-contrast, patented built-in front light, 8 weeks of battery life and an even slimmer and sleeker design.” According to our editor Matthew Panzarino, “the Kindle Paperwhite is a gorgeous addition to Amazon’s Kindle lineup.” (Click here to read TNW’s hands-on review)
As announced in Los Angeles last September 6th, Kindle Paperwhite retails for $119. As for its 3G version, which includes a free wireless connection without a monthly subscription, it is priced at $179.

While the company didn’t disclose numbers, Amazon Kindle vice president Jay Marin says that “pre-orders have far exceeded [Amazon’s] expectations.”
As you may remember, these devices won’t be available at Walmart. A few weeks ago, the retail giant announced that it would stop selling Kindle devices.
