Addappt adds ‘shake to call’, badges, and other features in pursuit of a ‘living address book’

Addappt adds ‘shake to call’, badges, and other features in pursuit of a ‘living address book’

Addappt, a reimagined address book for your iPhone, is releasing a major update today. Users will now be able to “shake to call” from within the app, along with receiving badge notifications, international support, and more.

Today’s set of new features comes nine months after Addappt opened up to the public. If you’re not familiar with the app, when you meet someone and add their contact information into the app, it will send a notification to them asking for permission to import what they have in Addappt. In a sense, it’s the cloud-based address book where if you make a change, it will be reflected in all the address books that have that reference.

The company’s founder, Mrinal Desai, tells us that this latest update is meant to help move the service closer towards “making contacts come alive” so that it’s not just data on your mobile device.

One of the newest features is the ability to “shake to call”. Users can navigate to any contact in Addappt and then literally shake the phone to begin dialing. In addition, in conjunction with the holidays, Addappt can send notifications to contacts asking for their physical mailing address so holiday cards can be sent — this option is only available in English.

Badge notifications have been added so that users can know in real-time when someone adds them to their address book. There’s also a thumbnail icon that can be inserted onto your home screen to allow you to easily change your caller ID.

Addappt has opened up its push notifications API to third-party developers in this update

Finally, the service supports more languages, specifically Spanish, French, and Brazilian Portuguese.
