A hack on Snapchat is sending photos of fruit smoothies to users (Updated)

Last year, an Instagram hack that posts pictures of fruit to users’ timelines surfaced twice — in June and July.

It seems like the hack has spread to Snapchat this time round, as Wired reports. The hack basically sends photos of smoothies with the URL of a scammy website to your friends.

UPDATE: Snapchat has sent in a statement to us acknowledging the hack: “Yesterday a small number of our users experienced a spam incident where unwanted photos were sent from their accounts. Our security team deployed additional measures to secure accounts. We recommend using unique and strong passwords to prevent abuse.”

Snapchat tells Wired that it is aware of the hack and is tracking down the leak — but these are mostly cases in which someone gets into your account on the first try with your email address and password, instead of employing any brute-force tactics.

There are numerous reports of the latest Snapchat hack on Twitter. Needless to say, don’t click the link — and if you’ve been affected, do reset your Snapchat password.
