Comcast expands Xfinity TV slate, offers MAX GO on tablets and smartphones

Comcast is bringing MAX GO‘s film and TV content to its Xfinity TV customers with Cinemax subscriptions, the company announced today. Following the launch, users will be able to stream MAX GO’s programming at no extra charge on their computers and mobile devices (iOS and Android).

According to Comcast, MAX GO currently offers US viewers over 700 hours of programming, from Hollywood blockbusters and indie flicks to exclusive TV series and behind-the-scenes interviews.

As US readers will have noticed, MAX GO’s approach is fairly similar to HBO GO, which lets HBO subscribers watch content on their  mobile devices. On a higher level, this also confirms the growing prevalence of multi-platform subscriptions plans, as premium players increasingly prefer this solution to à la carte transactions.

As a matter of fact, Comcast itself has recently launched a subscription VOD service called Xfinity Streampix. It also keeps on adding new functionalities to its offer, and announced a couple weeks ago that Xfinity users would be now able to make Skype calls directly from their TV in several cities.

While it remains to be seen whether MAX GO will be as popular to HBO GO or attract new clients, it is certainly a nice addition for  existing Cinemax subscribers.
