Thieves steal iPad mini haul worth $1.5 million from same JFK Airport building used in Goodfellas heist

Thieves steal iPad mini haul worth $1.5 million from same JFK Airport building used in Goodfellas heist

Reports are surfacing that two thieves have stolen a whopping $1.5 million worth of iPad minis, approximately 3,600 devices, from the JFK airport in New York.

This news comes as trials begin for a smuggling ring accused of sneaking $80 million worth of iPhones, iPads into China. Given how desirable Apple products are to many consumers, they have consistently been a popular item to steal. Clearly Apple’s growth is only exacerbating this problem.

The New York Post explains that the crooks had “snuck in before midnight on Monday and used one of the airport’s own forklifts to load two pallets of the tablet computers into a truck, according to law-enforcement sources.” Fortunately, the duo ended up “leaving three more pallets of the Apple tablets behind after they were challenged by an airport worker.”

Some 3,600 minis were stolen from Cargo Airport Services, which explained that the “iPads had just arrived from China and were destined for locations around the US.”

As New York Post points out, this incident occurred in the “same cargo building that was the site of the 1978 Lufthansa heist featured in GoodFellas.”
