Apple’s iPhone 4S has TWO antennas, HSPA+ and both GSM and CDMA – a “World Phone.”

Apple’s iPhone 4S has TWO antennas, HSPA+ and both GSM and CDMA – a “World Phone.”

Apple has seemingly learned its lesson after the whole Antennagate debacle.

The company just announced some bold internal updates to the iPhone, with the release of the iPhone 4S (full details).

The iPhone 4S has a two antennas that will supposedly offer a better voice-calling experience:

“We’ve done something technically amazing. It can now intelligently switch between the antennas for even better call quality” said Apple’s Phil Schiller.

The new iPhone will be a so-called “world phone,” meaning it will run on both the GSM and CDMA family of wireless network standards. With the iPhone 4, it’s choice of either GSM OR CDMA.

The iPhone 4s is not 4g but it does feature HSPA+ which according to Schiller, should allow the iPhone to download data “up to 2x as fast,” and  “Theoretical max performance used to be 5.8 up and 7.2 down — now doubles to almost 14.4Mbps down”
