Twitter today updated its iOS app with a new design specifically for iOS 7, although it still works with iOS 5 and iOS 6. You can download the new version now directly from Apple’s App Store.
The biggest changes are of course visual, although if you look closer you’ll see there are functional tweaks as well. Twitter has taken this as an opportunity to simplify its app, while still adding new features and keeping its offering “fresh.”

While the official changelog merely says the app has been redesigned for iOS 7, Twitter has shared a bit more detail on its blog:
- In the Music app, you can discover music that’s trending on Twitter through the Twitter #music station on iTunes Radio.
- Siri now searches Twitter, helping you find Tweets about topics or people.
- In Safari, use Shared Links to enjoy links that have been tweeted by the people you follow.
Twitter points out that these are not the only iOS integrations of its app. As in previous versions of iOS, version 7 lets you sign up for and sign into Twitter from your iPhone or iPad’s Settings app, update your Contacts app with @usernames of people you’re connected to, as well as share Web pages, photos, and more on Twitter directly from built-in and third-party apps. All of that is still intact.
Apple is a big partner for Twitter, so it’s not too surprising to see that the social network is on the ball with the latest mobile operating system version. Compare that to say, Facebook, which has yet to release a new version of its iOS app (Update: it’s live), and Twitter certainly looks ready to ride the wave. Whether users will actually like the new version, however, is another story.
