Twitter today released an update for Windows 8 and Windows RT, adding new features and improving the overall speed of its app. You can download the new version now directly from the Windows Store.
The biggest addition is undoubtedly the ability to sign-in with multiple accounts. If you use Twitter for personal as well as business use, this feature is for you.
To add a new account, swipe from the top or bottom (or right-click), click or tap the people icon at the top right, and hit the “plus” button also at the top right. You can also quickly delete accounts by tapping the “x” button beside any of them.
Next up, Twitter has added support for lists, letting you access your own as well as those of other users. It’s one of those features that is often forgotten, but can be very useful for filtering out all the noise on the social network.
Last but certainly not least, you can now pin lists and user profiles to your Start screen. In other words, yes, Twitter is doing more than just adding features that exist in its other apps: the company is indeed embracing the Metro features on Windows.
The full changelog is as follows:
- Support for multiple Twitter accounts.
- New “Lists” feature allows you to organize accounts you follow by type for a more customized timeline view.
- Native sign-up.
- Improved speed.
This is arguably the biggest update to Twitter’s Windows app since the company released the first version back in March. While the company certainly still has a lot of work ahead of it, it’s still great to see it get behind Microsoft’s latest platform.
