Twitter has acquired social feed summarizing tool Summify, the latter company announced on its blog today. The service recently passed the two billion aggregated stories mark.

“You’ve probably noticed we’ve been quiet lately,” the company announced. “Well, we’re extremely excited to announce that Summify has been acquired by Twitter! I know, right? We can hardly believe it ourselves!”

“Our long-term vision at Summify has always been to connect people with the most relevant news for them, in the most time efficient manner,” said Summify, adding that joining Twitter made ‘perfect sense’. “As hundreds of millions of people worldwide are signing up and consuming Twitter, we realized it’s the best platform to execute our vision at a truly global scale.”

In a recent update, the company added navigation options and made available Instapaper integration, giving readers the ability to read a story later on a variety of devices.

Summify endeavors to automatically identify the most important news stories across all of your networks and to tell you why they are important. This enables you to access a summary of the most interesting stories of the day, all in its app.

It’s unclear how Twitter will be using Summify’s technology as of yet, but If I had to make bets, it would be to beef up its newly added ‘Discover’ tab. The newly announced section attempts to surface content from Twitter that it believes you’re interested in, but it hasn’t been all that accurate, from our experience. Summify could help change all of that.
