This band lets fans unlock exclusive content by tagging Instagram photos

Instagram is a hot place for brands and celebrities to interact with fans these days. The number one iPhone app for 2011 has 15 million users and shows no signs of slowing down.

One band has come up with an extremely unique way to leverage the photo-sharing community to get fans excited about its latest album and tour dates. The alternative band ‘Twin Atlantic‘ from Scotland will even include your photos on its next mosaic poster:

Share your Instagram photos using #freetwinatlantic to unlock exclusive Twin Atlantic audio and video content, only available here. The more Instagram photos you share with #freetwinatlantic, the more content you help unlock. Every fan-submitted Instagram photo will become an original tile on the Virgin Mary photo mosaic poster, available for pre-order now!

We wrote about a band who used the app to crowd-source its music video, and this campaign takes things to the next level.

The promotional site shows all of the images that have been posted to Instagram with the hashtag #freetwinatlantic, and every new photo helps move the band’s community towards unlocking the exclusive content.

Impressively, a lot of the photos being shared with the hashtag actually have something to do with the band. This means that the fans are taking the challenge seriously and really love Twin Atlantic.

Brands like Starbucks have taken to Instagram almost immediately, interacting with coffee drinkers everywhere. However, this level of interaction means that Instagram is able to break outside of its iOS only app, even though it doesn’t have its own website. It’s amazing what some creativity, rabid fans, and a killer API can accomplish.
