LG says it is ready to begin producing the ‘world’s first’ flexible screen for smartphones

G FlexLG has taken a step ahead of rival Samsung in the race to introduce a smartphone with a curved screen, after announcing that it will begin mass-producing what it claims is the world’s first flexible OLED.

In addition to producing a part for smartphone makers, TNW understands from sources at LG that the company is working on a flexible device that will be called the G Flex, which will arrive sometime before the end of the year. The phone will feature a plastic OLED (POLED) screen to give it increased durability. The image on the right is a filing made with the Korea Patent Office for the flexible handset design concept.

Samsung revealed its own plans in September, when it said it will launch an as-yet-unnamed curved screen smartphone in Korea sometime this month.
