Netflix is getting all 10 seasons of Friends in the US and Canada

Netflix just tried to rain on HBO’s parade. The company has announced that all 10 seasons of Friends will be available to stream on its platform from January 1, 2015 in the US and Canada.

The show is over a decade old now, but the escapades of Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Ross are still loved the world over. Countless reruns and releases, both physically and digitally, have extended its appeal to new generations and cemented its status as one of the most iconic TV shows.

HBO, if you missed the news, announced today that it would be launching a standalone streaming service in the US next year. It could put the platform in direct competition with Netflix and Amazon’s Prime Instant Video; today’s announcement is a reminder of the former’s growing size and influence.
