The UK streaming deals keep coming. Now LoveFilm has signed up ABC TV

Amazon’s European DVD rental and online streaming service LoveFilm has announced that it has signed a deal with Disney UK to bring ABC TV to its UK users.

The deal will give members access to shows such as Lost, Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy. Shows will be available to stream after their first run on paid or free-to-air TV channels in the UK. In some cases, previous seasons will be available before the next season airs.

LoveFilm and rival Netflix, which launched in the UK and Ireland last week, have been involved in something of a battle of oneupmanship with regard to exclusive streaming deals of late. LoveFilm has recently signed up the likes of Sony Pictures, eOne and StudioCanal. Meanwhile, Netflix has announced Miramax, Lionsgate and MGM.

The fact that both companies have exclusive deals means that neither can claim to boast a comprehensive movie and TV show selection, leaving the keenest streamers with the option of subscribing to both services.

Although the ABC deal only applies to the UK, LoveFilm last week announced that it has a total of 2 million members in the UK, Denmark, Germany, Sweden and Norway.
