Google issues ‘workaround’ to fix bug affecting paid-for apps on Android Wear devices

Google has released details of a “workaround” that fixes a troublesome issue that is preventing paid-for apps from working on Android Wear devices.

The issue was highlighted by Android Police and is pretty embarrassing for Google given that its first wearable device — the LG G Watch — is now on sale, the Samsung Gear Live is available for pre-order and the Moto 360 is arriving soon.

The solution requires developers to manually package the wearable APK and is explained in full on the Android Developers blog.

The company has apologized for the issue and it says that “a future update” to its API will handle the problem (which is in the “wearApp” Gradle rule) in full. For now, these steps are the only way to get around it.
