Kicksend hires Wells Riley, creator of “Startups, this is how design works”

If you’re looking for someone to head up design for your startup, you might want to look at the person who created “Startups, this is how design works.“, a fantastic guide written for non-designers. It looks like Kicksend did just that by hiring Wells Riley as its new, and first, product designer.

The Y Combinator company that has an app that lets you send photo and video files to anyone, just released an Android app that’s pretty sweet. The Kicksend service is also free now, which makes it even better.

Here’s what the company had to say on its blog today about hiring Riley:

Kicksend empowers everyday, non-technical people to connect better with people they love. One very important way we accomplish this is through carefully constructed interaction design on all of our web and mobile products. As such we’re always searching intensely for amazing new talent to join our small product team.

Today, we’re ecstatic to announce that Wells Riley will be joining the Kicksend team full-time as our very first product designer. He’s now tasked with taking Kicksend’s interaction design and UI up multiple notches in the next few months – i.e, Wells will be fighting for the users.

What better person to head up your design than the man who became known for explaining it to people like me?

Here’s what Riley had to say on his blog about joining the company:

Along with creating a simple and beautiful UI, my primary focus will be perfecting the user experience. No one wants to send files. People just want friends, family, and co-workers to have them as quickly as possible. It’s an interesting challenge…

Sounds like the perfect hire to me.
