Uber rolls into Vietnam, its second new launch in Asia this week

Uber has continued its growth in Asia after it launched in Saigon, Vietnam, its second new city this week following its arrival in Hong Kong.

Vietnam is a large market, with a population of around 90 million, but it has been a relative backwater for international tech firms, with Facebook being blocked on and off in recent times. As Tech In Asia points out, the country is crying out for the kind of logistics and networks that Uber is vying to build worldwide.

Uber’s arrival in Vietnam again pits the company against Malaysian rival Grabtaxi, which entered the country in February. Uber serves over 100 cities worldwide, including 26 in Asia Pacific.
