In a drastic decision yesterday, Pakistan high Court had issued a block on social network Facebook.
The ban was imposed due to a Facebook group started by an individual that asked for users to submit caricatures of Prophet Muhammad as part of “Draw Muhammad Day” In a developing story, news is that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has asked Internet Service Providers to block Youtube and Wikipedia as well.
According to a PTA official, the ban expanded to YouTube because some caricatures from Facebook were uploaded to Youtube. Twitter users have mentioned that Wikipedia and Flickr are on the blacklist too. BBC has confirmed that some Wikipedia pages are indeed being blocked.
The decision to ban these websites has divided the Pakistan on the street and those on the Internet. Facebook for its part has said that they weren’t warned about this block.

Its a very good Act done by pakistani Goverment Ever…
Best Act done by Pakistan ever !!! Against such Devils
NO ONE HAS A RIGHT TO MAKE FUN OF ANYONES RELIGIOUS PERSONALITIES….NOT EVEN IN DA NAME OF SO CALLED FREEDOM OF SPEECH….MUSLIMS EVEN CANNOT DO DIS FOR OTHER RELIGIONS…BECAUSE PROPHET (P.B.U.H) HAVE TOLD THE MUSLIMS TO RESPECT PEOPLE OF EVERY RELIGION..GR8 PART PLATED BY PAKI GOVERNMENT….WE WILL BAN FACEBOOK FOREVER.INSHALLAH
next thing you know you are going to say ban msn messenger.
That is just a lie.
Maybe muslims are not allowed to make fun of other religions, but they certainly do anyway.
It has been proven many many times, that newspapers in islamic countries post anti-jewish cartoons on a regular basis.
muslims are NOT allowed to make fun of ANY religion! and they dont…i live in a muslim country and i have never seen newspapers post anti-jewish cartoons! this is a lie!
1. Stop shouting (capitalise every single word)
2. Who said no one have the right to make fun of anybody’s religion?
Your religious figure is up for satire just as any other is.
This is just another demonstration of how old mythology can’t keep up with the continuously developing understanding of what makes an efficient society. Censoring those who happen to offend you, or that you don’t like only destroys your credibility. To the rest of the world you’ll just end up being seen as violent children stuck so deeply in their delusions that they will stop at nothing to have it unquestioned.
If you censor your own people from anything that opposes their beliefs it just demonstrated your religions inability to stand on its own feet.
very right decision by the Government of Pakistan. nobody should dare to abuse our religion and our Holy Prophet P.B.U.H….. death to the culprits for their stupid acts….
How is this helping stopping the event in anyway? Banning those sites wont make any difference, rather Pakistani advertiser on those sites are losing money instead.
well done keep it up PTA
well manan on this issue there is no difference b/w net user and street protester we are united against shameful act of the “devil lovers”. Great decision by High Court. your analysis is based on fact less theory
Hi Sohail, appreciate you sharing your opinion. I said that because the people from Pakistan that I follow on twitter are against the ban.
Sohail my friend, being a Muslim I have great respect for my Prophet and I’m the one of protesters as well. But, right now I completely agree with MANAN. Suppose If you own a Restaurant, and people protest that your chef is using a PORK instead of Chicken which is forbidden in Islam. What would you do..
1) Just shut down the Restaurant as a protest.
2) Or, throw away the chef, out of your Restaurant and take care that it doesn’t happen any more in future.
So, If you’re going for the Option 1, best of luck for your business man. Now I can bet that 60% of the ppl protesting on the streets don’t even know how to use facebook and can’t even find such event. They are just doing so, ‘coz they have been guided to do it.
Facebook is not a place to chill only and share thousands of useless jokes, videos and serving farms for the jobless ppl on the streets protesting. It has become a source of income for many ppl related to technology including Pakistanis as well.
I protest against facebook that why they din’t block such event if it even exists on facebook. But don’t forget those people who have been creating groups and pages just to divert traffic to guide people about this cause since last 10-15 days and earning hell of money through Adsense. So, For God sake we all should have respect for our Prophet in our heart first, and remember HE(PBUH) always mentioned that believe what you SEE not what you hear ONLY.
So, I agree to Manan, that this has divided PAKISTAN in two groups, one who’re on streets and other who’re on INTERNET.
Peace.
Dear Fahad, i do agree to u, and i believe that what ever you have said is completely correct from the logics point of view.
But my dear, tell me one thing, if some one tried to disgrace (KHUDA NAKHASTA) your parents, what will your reaction. You will still think about the logics, and will justify the situation, look at ur financial conditions and decide. No dear absolutely not, as some time you need to take decision and only decision. You have to show your respect abt your respective pplz and if case is abt our dearest prophet, then check out the level of EMAN, and then comment.
I would like to request my countrymen, kindly be Muslim first then tried to be moderate, since Islam is itself so much moderate and advance religion. But being moderate or advance doesn’t mean allowing ppl doing things like this. Facebook is in any case responsible to this, and any person link to facebook will have to either with or against facebook. There is no second thought
gr8 step by PTA EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO PRACTICE THEIR OWN RELIGION … but nobody has the right to hurt others religious sentiments @ckndr we our going have our own websites better then facebook and youtube !
well i partly agree with this ban as there needed to be a stop to this kind of link but the question is was the LHC correct in ordering a complete ban of the website, in my view i guess the whole site was not needed to be block a better solution would had been a few links that were offensive and as for action against facebook is concerned there should had been a legal notice from the Attorney general of Pakistan for defamation against the believes of Muslim communities and an request to remove the fan page and event from facebook, if that was not done then AG of Pakistan could had sued facebook for defamation and caused them loses in amount greater to what we will be causing them now minus the losses we are generating against the people of our nation as our countries companies also place advertisement on facebook and are at a loss.
I wonder if they can organise contest digging into the facts of holocaust on facebook in the name of freedom of speech.
That’s already been done,
first step toward a SILENT REVOLUTION in PAKISTAN…..
INSHALLAH
v good.this is most great work
this ban is stupid. how is banning facebook, youtube, and wikipedia going stop the event. these acts happen all around the world and pakistan is the only country getting so damn serious about it. its because of these same religious fanaticism that pakistan is in its current condition.
i’m sorry.. r u muslim mr.z ?? ..do u mean WHY we r serious about this issue? i think u need to analyze urself..
yes, actually i am a muslim born in Pakistan. instead of pakistan taking something that is on the internet with such serious action they should take serious actions against other problems plaguing the country. but no they ban the sites for what reason? to protest an event against Islam. the money they spend on blocking the sites could go to getting more electricity so we dont have load-shedding.
I think the Pakistani government has done a wonderful thing. The youth of this country, which in my opinion is this nations only hope for coming out of a whole it burrows deeper and deeper into, will finally have the perfect reason to leave this country by pursuing foreign education and permanently finding a home elsewhere.
While what the owner of the page that decided to draw the Holy Propher (pbuh) was wrong, Pakistan’s issue of the ban does not solve the problem, the pictures are still there. Only Muslims who would visit that page would be at true fault, but that would be their private decision, one they would separately be punished for.
I think this move made by the government is a really big one, as the educated class of this country will slowly drift away, and the government can then have no problem issuing Shariah law and reverting our nation back to the 1980s so any and all progress made by us since our founding would be permanently lost for a static state, one which its members would be happy about.
A great decision by LHC and PTA banning face-book.
those who are saying that banning wont help need to think a little.
well we Muslims are about 47% of face-book users and we have been asking face-book to stop this event but face-book was just ignoring us. If we unite and leave face-book all at once face-book looses 47% of its users. with this i think next time something like this event happens face-book will listen to us and will give importance to our beliefs.
I think this is good step by Pakistani Govt. and PTA, but v should do more than this that they foolish people can realise the strength of muslims and never even try to do this again.
I was wondering that why PTA has banned wekipedia as it’s a very good source of information. But if it had abused their religion then I appreciate the step taken by PTA. Because noone should abuse anyone’s religion. Noone has that right.
@z………….!!!
excuse me mr./ms. ur way of thinking is stupid nt the step our govt. took. The bann is going to stop the event or nt ,the thing is how united we Muslims are for our Religion ,for our Prophet. …n this bann is gonna give a big loss to facebook who is earning a lot from pakistani users as well. its a very good step taken by our government.
it is great that PTA has taken action. Before, I thought that Pakistan has no one who could show their power to protect our great Religion. It would be extremely silly to protest against this ban. Pakistan Zindabad!!
Lets say I just claimed to have a revelation from God and am starting my own religion. Lets say God told me you all should die and that is my religion. People who follow this also get EXTREMELY HURT and offended when you breathe because our holy book says oxygen is our property and having inferior beings like you consume it is a serious insult to our oxy-moron, I mean oxy-God!
Please stop breathing and let me kill you. Nobody has the right to make fun of our religion and nobody has the right to hurt us. Right? Don’t say my religion doesn’t matter because it is new and doesn’t have as many supporters. When Muhammad came with Islam, he had lesser supporters.
We can’t just stand here and do nothing when a website which we all have come to love becomes a source of disrespect to what we Love the most in our entire lives. Its not the point that the event actually gets stopped or not. The point is how to best voice our heart felt protest.
Where did my comment go?
sorry, it was marked as spam. Fixed.
yeah so basically you guys are saying, if anything like this happens we should just ban everything! sure. since were in the spirit of our beloved religion, why not adopt shariah law like the maulvis want us to? why not adopt the same policies that saudi arabia has..
we should also ban all the media permanently as the “sneaky americans” try to sway us from the path of righteousness. who needs any tv when they show cleavage which is against islam.. women should always be covered up. PTA should also make sure all pornographic websites are banned, as well as all means of downloading anything since people download pornographic films all the time.. but no one has a problem with that do they?
while we’re at it why not make sure people who fornicate or steal get the appropriate punishment? as a 3rd world country we have no issues with traffic violation, we have no issues with piracy. we have no problem with our country being controlled by a man who was once in prison.. we all do a million things that are against our religion and that are morally and ethically wrong, but the second someone ELSE does something we dont agree with, its totally justified for us to over react and block freedom of speech cause for us its convenient and we get to hypocritically show the world that we care about our religion when most of us are CLOSE to muslims only in the month of ramadan. some self reflection will do us all good. were just arrogant and self-righteous.
I am a Pakistani living abroad. It is a very good decision by HC and this surely give fb a blow, though our advertisers will lose money too but for love and dignity of Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) this is nothing.”Freedom of speech” the term is used again and again by western countries but they donot understand the difference between “FREEDOM OF SPEECH” and “FREEDOM TO INSULT”. Now it is high time to draw a boundary for freedom of speech which can hurt other person’s belief.
It is upon us to act wisely in these kinds of situations. Thre are 5 levels of protest:
1.Government talks
2.Bycott
3.Sue
4.Direct talk to the culprit
5.Violence
Now it is our responsibility as a follower of the most peaceful and non-violent religion on the face of earth that which path we take.
I have deactivated my account on facebook and hoping that other Muslims living abroad can do so as well.. BYCOTT which is a part of protest and we can go further and sue them as well…
hahaha! you seriously said were the most peaceful religion? Im pretty sure our religion says an eye for an eye. and in these last few years, our religion has definately been one of the most violent.
I would love to see our government sue Facebook. what i would love even more is for all these popular websites to just realize we aren’t worth it and ban us from using their facilities. then we’ll be speechless.
@right: What is going on in our country has nothing to do with this issue and as a Muslim we should be united always. Once again for me this is not FREEDOM OF SPEECH and those who think that this decision by HC in Pak is not correct then what are the other options do we have???
@right, you have pretty much summed it all up. i think we CAN become number One if we follow Islam like a fundamentalist. Why don’t be believe that we can win by doing things OUR Way for a change.
@comment: Mind ur language..Our religion is not violent but the followers who are mocking our religion….
When the Danish cartoons were released a few years ago, many people died. That fact alone just makes people think that we are very sensitive about this stuff, but that we are also insanely violent. When something like this happens it is our job to unite, sure. But not by banning these websites. We peacefully dont view the page, and don’t interact with the other party, except for asking them to put it down because it is against our faith. Our government could have notified facebook that what they were doing was resulting in major chaos and no action by them would mean we would take down facebook to restore peace. We did no such thing. In banning facebook sure you might be cutting their revenue by a little bit, but they dont care that much, and more so the page is still up, we’ve just made sure any chance we had to put it down is gone cause now there is no way we can communicate with the other party.
We cannot become number 1 at anything because we are fundementally flawed. We dont have an established government, a just constitution, no land regulations that break the power of landlords. The poor people are remaining poor, and have no education. We have a population crisis and all the while, these violent outbreaks SLOW DOWN our progress. Ill tell you another solution. If anyone has a problem with what is happening in the western world, cut your internet connection and throw away your computer. Forget the Muslims, there are plenty of non-Muslims in Pakistan and while they are a minority, they don’t get to visit certain websites cause we have a problem with 1 out of the 500million pages it has? I dont think that’s fair.
The biggest problem we have is that we have a short-temper and absolutely no tolerance. These are qualities we should learn to adopt. Too many things we do are hypocritical, and if i remember correctly that says the hypocrits will burn in the worst part of hell.
Well for one , if we had a lot of regulations and good government like say , i don’t know , like US for example and of course we were not secular (This has to be a given, i hope we still remain proud muslims by the time we get there , and if we get there at all). We would certainly have had taken stronger actions against it. Our action to just ban is weak , because we ARE weak right now (and not having a good government may be a part of the problem). But our ban is not hypocricy. If were stronger , we would have a more REAL implementation of islam (be it a fundamentalist version). and facebook or that particular user would have had hell to pay before they even think about putting something like this on the net. Alright i agree, all of this sounds arrogant. But WE CANT STAY STILL, we had to do something even if we are hypocritical, not doing anything would have made an even bigger munafiq out of us. When a nation stops protesting ( even protesting ). that means its already dead, no need to occupy it, it will blow away on its own.
if we donot peacefully view this page, it does not harm them but if we ban it then only it cause them harm and one more thing they do not have courage to ban us as their sole agenda is to morally disgrace us….
I do not know law and HC must have taken into consideration every small details and I guess it is not necessary to tell them before hand that we are going to ban them…
I had a long discussion on that page who is organizing such shameful contest but they were using such abusive languages and they did not care then why the Hell shall we???????????
I will remain neutral whether what the government has done is right or wrong. I am studying for my exams which I must excel in if I am to get to college. I use YouTube to understand a lot of the topics I’m confused about namely through KhanAcademy. But thanks to this I cannot, so apart from that, I’d like to say that this thing is very unconvenient for me and I think its unfair. I think being good Muslims none of us will be going to see the drawings of our prophet. But all these websites have a lot of other functions, which we cant use. If I suffer in education because of this then.. well. ill leave it at that
This is a very gud step indeed…..V r muslims and v should protest against any offensive avtivity against our religion islam…… these anti islamic websites should b blocked permanently…… as all other islamic countries like turkey, etc and also china has even blocked these sites…… facebook has also a disadvantage that it wastes alot of time of our muslim children which they can utilize in any other useful activity……v should b united against the missionaries and traps of anti muslim world which they r plotting againt muslims… stay united against them muslim world…
@right
bro they are making fun of our PROPHET (sallal-ho-alhe-walayhe-wasalam)
banning is just first step
other step would be killing the damn publisher!!!!
other step would be killing the damn publisher!!!!
Comments like this represent bad impression of Muslims..
Its really a good and an in time decision that was really a necessity of time. Non-Muslims (only who do such blashphameous acts) call it freedom of speech but they don’t know about the right of others beliefs. They call us extremists but they can’t bear anyone who doesn’t follow their views or shows resentment when their self respect is targetted.
dear student there r alot of other websites from which u can take help…. protecting the dignity of the Hazrat Muhammad9SAW) is far more important than our and your studiess….
Before partition there was a pamphlet published(if I recall correctly or may be book) in Britain and it disgraced Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Sir Syed Ahmad Khan sold his property and wrote a book KHUTBAT-E- AHMADIYA and it was a fitting reply…Mind it he was living in India under British rule and they did not have courage to hurt or destroy him…
Then why banning is hurting us..Few years back there was no facebook, youtube and Wikipedia, but we were still alive then why cant we live now??????
GR8 job pakistan…….!!!!
Mr.right , learn to think right….
@NameMubahir
people like you, or atleast comments like those is what completely justifies america from taking a nuke and levelling the entire muslim world. they have the power to do so. and if over verbal disputes (albeit VERY bad because its blasphemist) we are willing to kill people, then they have the right to pre-emptively strike. think about what you say. i agree that what that publisher is doing is wrong, but we dont have the right to kill anyone. if we are a peaceful religion. that publisher will atone for his sins when he burns in hell.
@rider
well in banning youtube we arent protecting the dignity of our prophet. we all know of how perfect an individual he was, nothing can change that.
@sm
I think thats a good way of going about such problems. Instead of swearing vengeance and trying to kill people, we should be smart and reply back to their message proving them wrong.
dear right, mere words wont do anything v will have to stand unitedly and do sumthin actions speak louder than words…. they dont listen to muslims…. did these anti muslim s listened to afghanistan or iraq????? R they listening to palestine???? no they r burning them and killing them…. v should bann all their products and sites that damages our dignity…. its our religious obligation to stop them by any means…. this s not a little thing wht they r doing… they all r united against muslim world and trying to ruin and destroy muslims identity and dignity which v wont and shouldnt allow….. yes Allah will punish them in akhitrah… but in this world v r responsible to protect our religion and sacrifice our lives for its glory and existence thats wht our prophet and sahabah did…. to eliminate fasad help muslims and stop any anti islamic activity…
@Rider : well said!!!!!!
words are not hurting them and I told u Ihad long discussion on that page which is having this contest, there were people from other religions, Christians, Jews, hindus, and they were so united that all of them was saying similar things and alas we are not united and trying to prove our own decision wrong
student… thats not enough…. will u just sit quitely and watch them when they will burn our Quran???? when they will use abusive and bad language against our Allah, our Prophet(SAW) and islam???? will u tolerate this being muslim????? Soory dear but thats a shameful thing for us…. any person who speaks against our Prophet (SAW) or use bad language is WAJIB UL QATAL in islam that means his killing is wajib on muslims….. remember that…

Yes justify Draw Mohammed Day with the act of censorship. Justify all the reasons why this all happened. Use censorship when Islam cannot withstand scrutiny. And show how Islam fears laughter (Feel free to search YouTube videos about that. Oh wait you can’t. LOL) And show the world how intolerant Islam really is with censorship.
Oh pleas justify all of us who partake in “Draw Mohammed Day.”

Simple Justification………you are against Islam…This all happened because you are scared of Muslims, you are scared of their strength…This happened in past as well..
See how harsh the reaction is from Muslims………
You are so scared that now you are reading these articles on ban by Pakistan government……..
I can only pray to God to show you the right path or give u a severe punishment and oh yeah I want to see that punishment..lol
Trust me
“ALLAH IS THERE TO SAVE HIS BELOVED PROPHET FROM ALL EVILS” (COPY/PASTE)
“Simple Justification………you are against Islam”
No…You misrepresent my position. I am not against Islam. You must feel lying is ok seeing that when you misrepresent me you are lying. I am however against censorship and threatening people even for mocking this Mohammed guy you think is a prophet. And realy why should they not mock a man who is a pedophile? Heck if Islam/Mohammed cannot stand up to mockery, before it even gets to the scrutiny part. Then it is a really is a weak religion. In fact Muslims have already shown Islams weakness by initiating violence, like the school bully who cannot argue against the intellectual, their only resort is aggression.
“This all happened because you are scared of Muslims, you are scared of their strength…This happened in past as well”
Well there you are justifying my comment about the school bully (Thanks for showing I am correct). Anyways no… this happened because people are not scared. And tired of threats from the Muslim world who do use threats and intimidation.
“See how harsh the reaction is from Muslims”
Yep, further justifying what I have been saying. Thanks for pointing that out.
“You are so scared that now you are reading these articles on ban by Pakistan government”
WTF? How in the hell do you get the idea that a person would be scared from reading articles? Articles that clearly show how scared Muslims are against the fact that Islam cannot withstand scrutiny let alone even being mocked? Again thanks for justifying what I have been saying.
“I can only pray to God to show you the right path or give u a severe punishment”
Well if you feel like wasting your time fell free to do so.
“and oh yeah I want to see that punishment..lol”
Of course you do. What better way can you personally demonstrate that Islam is a religion of peace then by not only praying for a punishment (Witch will require one to suffer) and you wanting to see such a scene. Wow.! What a peaceful religion. NOT. Thanks again for justifying what I have been saying.
“Trust me”
Again no… Any one who wishes to see me suffer is not a man I would want to trust.
“ALLAH IS THERE TO SAVE HIS BELOVED PROPHET FROM ALL EVILS”
And yet he does nothing…. But lots of Muslim who apparently don’t have faith in your comment above seem to feel they need to defend him because apparently Allah is not doing anything.
And again don’t forget.

@BlasphemyisFun Islam does not need scrutiny as this is a complete code of life..A Perfect religion…But narrowminded people like u cant understand..u want nudity, vulgarity everywhere, this is what u call FREEDOM……
Islam does not need scrutiny? Why? Because you don’t like it? Now it may be your code of life but if you want to go with a code of life lead by a pedophile then feel free to do so. However the rational world not suck in the dark-ages finds it just disgusting…

You have so fare failed to provide any thing to justify your reasons. Logical fallacy’s are not reasons. Because they are built on faulty logic. And again it is not me that needs to justify my position because my position is the default and it is you who is the one who is making the claims. Something you have failed to do thus far.

Hell and heaven is reality as this world is……..Simple logic: When u take a test or exam, two things happen, u either fail or pass and those who pass get reward, promotion, glory and those who fail get disgrace..sameway this world is a temporary place and we are taking an exam, those who do bad will get Hell and those who do good will get Heaven..This is as simple and logical
If u have brains then only u will understand my point

Simple logic try false logic. That does not say if there is a Hell that says if there is a exam And seeing there is no evidence for your gods, and no evidence of any exam by your gods your logic false. No its not like that, there is only one God Allah who governs these all activities of universe, He is Who created u and He is Who will take ur life. this life is too short and just a preparation for the life after death… u see some people in this world remain cruel they live life of luxury and ruin kill and beat the poor and then at another hand the other people who live life of sorrow, poverty, downtroden, all life praying to God and crying… these r two different life standards so is it possible that both live their lives as above and die like wise without any justice in same condition???/ No there should b justice the poor will get his reward for praying and tolerating the poverty and cruelty of rich…. nad the cruel people will get punish for their behaviour this is justice and that will b done after death so it isnt possible that there isnt any life after death… the world is going towards its end and it will end at time of armegadon…. then everything of universe will b destroyed and then all the people will again b given lives after that a court will b held where all the deeds of people in this world will b told to him and then he will b treated like wise…. u should check a translation of the holy book Quran sometime.. just read it … u will know the truth and Allah will guide you to the good path INSHAALLAH… dont choose the wrong path just have a try go to any masjid and ask any muslim scholor there u will get the answers to ur questions just have a try….and then tell me again sumtime
@rider:well said bro!!!!!!!!!
thnx sm dear…
There are NO logics whatsoever in that story, retard.

They can’t give a single logical argument to believe or evidence so they try and appeal to fear and emotion.

“what do u think blasphemy that were u created without any God???”
Ah yeah And until any evidence is ever produced Don’t expect me to belive. Just like you should not expepct me to belive you have super powers and can fly. Just because someone or some bok says something exist. Does not make it so.
“this universe, day and ni8, people come people go, is this all done without anyone to govern it???”
Again Yep
“No its not like that, there is only one God Allah who governs these all activities of universe, He is Who created u and He is Who will take ur life. “this life is too short and just a preparation for the life after death…”
Okay any evidence of this claim? No? I did not think so,
“u see some people in this world remain cruel they live life of luxury and ruin kill and beat the poor and then at another hand the other people who live life of sorrow, poverty, downtroden, all life praying to God and crying… these r two different life standards so is it possible that both live their lives as above and die like wise without any justice in same condition???”
You do know that (percent wise) more people who believe in a God are in prison for such things then people who do not believe in God.
“No there should b justice the poor will get his reward for praying and tolerating the poverty and cruelty of rich…. nad the cruel people will get punish for their behaviour this is justice and that will b done after death so it isnt possible that there isnt any life after death…”
Ah yes the logical fallacy of appeal to emotion. But by all means show evidence for this justice. Oh that is right you can’t.
“the world is going towards its end and it will end at time of armegadon….then everything of universe will b destroyed and then all the people will again b given lives after that a court will b held where all the deeds of people in this world will b told to him and then he will b treated like wise…”
And people have been saying that for as long as there has been a written recorded. And guess what? We are still here. Sorry, appealing to fear does not work on the rational.
“u should check a translation of the holy book Quran sometime.. just read it … “
I have. Hell I grew up around Muslims who took me to mosque and read the unholy book Quran with me. And that is why I am not a Muslim today. Because I did read it studied it had the history shrouding it. However unlike Muslims who just believe it because they are told to. I read it with an open mind witch requires one to scrutinize something before excepting it. Asking such questions like, “What makes Mohammed a prophet?” And because the quran could not hold up against scrutiny and it leaves a blood trail of vilence in its path through out history. It failed the test.
”u will know the truth and Allah will guide you to the good path INSHAALLAH…”
Any kind of empirical evidence of this Allah fellow? No? I thought so….
“dont choose the wrong path”
That is why I not Muslim.
“just have a try go to any masjid and ask any muslim scholor there u will get the answers to ur questions just have a try….and then tell me again sumtime “
Again I have. Do you always assume because someone does not believe what you do they must not have studied an gave your religion a go?
And remember.

We are better off such so called revolution…..
I appreciate PTA and all muslims in Pakistan for this step. This is better step, but not the best. still more to do bcoz they r increasing their propoganda against Islam day by day…
“Once a muslim woman went to the jew`s shop to buy something; after buying, that jew put her veil stick with something and when she turned back, she had got unvieled by doing so. A Sahabi (R.A) was passing from there; by after seeing this, he could not help murdering that jew. All the jew of that area came and made that Sahabi (R.A) shaheed. When this in4mation was brought to our Beloved Prophet (S.A.W.W), he ordered & prepared his companion for Jihaad and attacked on them (jews) to take revenge of that Sahabi (R.A)…
MORAL:-
1- If we were there, we would only buycott purchasing the products from his (jew`s) shop.
2- Buycott is a western way (better) but Jihaad is the Islamic way (best).
3- We (all muslim countries) should use our military powers against them just like they are using theirs.
4- America alongwith 42 countries is combined against Islam and has been attacking on Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Kashmir and finally Pakistan since long time. We are not combined like them, although we belong to the same religion.
two wrong doesn’t make one right?, Have come across some stupid comments if you don’t have the courage and balls to stand against it, you can at least do us a favor by keep your mouth shut rather then suggesting that people who come on the street doesn’t even know how to use facebook, you can’t block nudity so don’t block this, some people on twitter condemn the ban on facebook. Can anyone tell me how many people condemn the facebook boycott and how many supported it? I am sure the statistics will be good enough to make you shut up, even if you are one of the living shameless creature
Islam is the religion not only for Muslims but it is a universal religion, eternal and fast growing religion….There is only one God who is sovereign AND Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is His last prophet…
God is there and if we fail to stop or make any impact then trust me “HE IS THE ONE WHO WILL PROTECT HIS BELOVED CREATION”
JUST WAIT AND WATCH
Did anyone ever heard about any Muslim abusing any other religion of the world, NO.. then why Islam is being targeted all the times???
It indicates that there is a deliberate campaign against Islam..
Y people from other religions abuse Islam, is it allowed in their religion?? is’nt it prohibited in their religion???
Ban is a representation of the majority of people of Pakistan and i think its a very logical way of representing people’s reservations
every aspect of life is mixed with good and the bad….the best thing we can do is to take the good and ignore the other….y dont u ban the entire web since many sites may have your banned material…Islam is a great religion…no one is eligible to comment on it…but this decision made by your government shows your immature mind.
well!! we all wanted it to be banned , it is not just our government act ! It is very simple, you will not allow a person entering in your home , who insulted you and your family in the worst way. you will feel offended. so we feel offended too, we reported that page but it wasn’t banned by facebook . If facebook wants to keep that page , so be it and now if facebook is permanently banned in Pakistan , I will be very happy . If not , then many of us are agreed on deleting our accounts . We will not want to be with in touch with a site which is governed by hypocrites , who ban a page when only few rules are broken , and is reported for a few times. but doesn’t bans when it is actually offensive for a large number of individuals.
well let talk about good take the good if there is noting bad about holocaust then why is that In April 2007 the European Union agreed to set jail sentences up to three years for those who deny or trivialize the Holocaust.
1 More recently, in response to the remarks of Bishop Richard Williamson, the Pope has proclaimed that Holocaust denial is “intolerable and altogether unacceptable.”
See the broad Mind Decision :))) Jail for 3 years for i some one not accept that was not true your Hypocrite Muture mind ..
“Did anyone ever heard about any Muslim abusing any other religion of the world, NO”
Cough*jews*cough*
wat a ”GREAT”!!!!!!!!!!!!!! comment………………………..i totally agree with u
Allah has ordered us to stand against such incidents. If you are waiting for some miracle to happen then you are living in fool’s paradise. Allah will indeed help us only if we are willing to help ourselves. But i am soooo happy for the degree of faith you have u just need to be corrected a little.
Allah has ordered you to stand against such incidents? Can’t Allah the Almighty help himself?
When would you primitive people understand that there is no Allah or Muhammad, all religions are created by men.
You can criticize governments, countries and cultures, then why can’t you criticize your medievil religions?
by standing on the shore , and estimation the depth of sea is indeed a foolish act
Are You insane or an idiot, If there is no Allah, then think where were you before when you came in this world and where will you go after you die. Better repent before you die. Dont ever say things of which you are not shure, and never evolve into a Nietzsche or Bertrand Russel because too many reasoning leads no where…

we want permanent ban on these websites….lets move forward n make our own muslim internet world
All the religions should be respected. Such things should not be allowed. I appreciate this step by Pakistan. Though I myself a user of facebook, but I completely own this step. Facebook management should take actions against such miscreants who are making this site controversial. No one can be allowed to hurt muslims’s emotions.
No one can be allowed to hurt muslim’s emotions?
Why not adjust your emotions to be slightly more adult and maybe they won’t be hurt by things that don’t matter. Running around screaming because something upsets you is embarrassing, deal with it, take a deep breath, think about the concepts of subtlety, variety, freedom.
Well said, Prophet(SAW) is above and beyond this cheap act of drawing cartoons of him by some third rated person. The biggest losers in this case are us Muslims, who do not understand and follow the message(The Qura’n) that he brought for the whole mankind, and believe in everything else written by some criminals in the name of history with the very intention of maligning Islam and it’s Prophet(SAW)’s character. And when something like this happens, we do what we are doing now, screeming, cursing, burning Flags and tires and destroying the property that belongs to our own fellow Muslims and countrymen.
The most pathetic bunch of people.
Who says he’s above criticism? Can’t Allah the Almighty protect his own name and his messenger’s name himself?
When would you primitive people understand that there is no Allah or Muhammad, all religions are created by men.
You can criticize governments, countries and cultures, then why can’t you criticize your medievil religions?
well let just why not adjust your self on holocaust let people talk to them there own mind why there is a jail sentence in In April 2007 the European Union agreed to set jail sentences up to three years for those who deny or trivialize the Holocaust.
1 More recently, in response to the remarks of Bishop Richard Williamson, the Pope has proclaimed that Holocaust denial is “intolerable and altogether unacceptable.” why not the Pope just tolerate and accept holocaust … freedom for all

@ Mr. Manan Kakkar…i don’t know who you are working for but you are so WRONG when you say “decision to ban these websites has divided the Pakistan on the street and those on the Internet”.
everyone in PAKISTAN is so united upon banning of these malicious sites be they on internet or on the street.
And plz stop using this BBC language, the cliche “divided the Pakistan”. Mark it well no body dares to divide Pakistan
JUST SHUT THIS SHIT UP MR. MANAN KAKKAR whoever you are.
you are so wrong about that
nobody divides Pakistan? I’m a Pakistani. And I know the political parties here have already divided it. United my ass.
We are against the decision of blocking these websites. At least the literate amongst us and not the extremist jahils like u.
Stop making Pakistan look bad u retard.
Im happy that some Pakistanis think like you. Hope majority think like you!
I am not illiterate , not a jahil . but I am really really happy on banning these sites. I live in Pakistan and to tell you , the masses are not divided , it is just the media who says it so . or the political parties. banning such sites is one example that we are all united. you can say whatever you want now !
If the site’s so offensive and all of Pakistan is united in their opinion against Facebook, and if everyone is so glad with it being blocked, why block it in the first place? It wouldn’t be used by anyone in the first place would it?
I can understand that muslims disagree with the drawings, but the people here who are proud with their government’s block of Facebook are actually proud of a government that doesn’t allow their people to think for themselves.
You might not be illiterate, but you sure are stupid for not seeing that.
what would you response to the Eu Government In April 2007 the European Union agreed to set jail sentences up to three years for those who deny or trivialize the Holocaust.1 More recently, in response to the remarks of Bishop Richard Williamson, the Pope has proclaimed that Holocaust denial is “intolerable and altogether unacceptable that is not Govt Of Pakistan that is West World why they impose Jail to people who deny Holocaust so actually you people are stupid.. and have double Stander Let people talk freely about holocaust why putting them in jail ??

Everybody Draw Mohammed Day is a protest against Islamists who threaten violence against individuals that attempt to depict Muhammad. It originally began as a protest against censorship of South Park episode “201″ by Comedy Central in response to death threats from radical Islamists. It started with a drawing posted on the Internet on April 20, 2010, the suggestion in it that everybody create a drawing representing Muhammad, a prophet of Islam, on May 20, 2010, as a protest against efforts to limit freedom of speech, and the movement in support of that protest.
U.S. cartoonist Molly Norris of Seattle, Washington, created the artwork in reaction to Internet death threats that had been made against cartoonists Trey Parker and Matt Stone for depicting Muhammad in an episode of South Park. Depictions of Muhammad are explicitly forbidden by a few hadith (Islamic texts), though not by the Qur’an. Postings on RevolutionMuslim.com had said that Parker and Stone could wind up like Theo van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker who was brutally murdered and mutilated by a Muslim extremist. The individuals running the website later denied that the postings were actual threats, although they were widely perceived as such.
Norris said that if millions of people draw pictures of Muhammad, Islamist terrorists would not be able to murder them all, and threats to do so would become unrealistic. Within a week, Norris’ idea became popular on Facebook, was supported by numerous bloggers, and generated coverage on the blog websites of major U.S. newspapers. As the publicity mounted, Norris and the man who created the first Facebook page promoting the May 20 event disassociated themselves from it. Nonetheless, planning for the protest continued with others taking “up the cause
Norris drew the original, poster-like cartoon on April 20, 2010, which declared May 20, 2010, to be “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day”. The drawing showed various anthropomorphized objects, including a coffee cup, a cherry and a box of pasta, each claiming to be the likeness of Muhammad. Norris used the alternate spelling of “Mohammed” on her poster.[3] Across the top of the illustration she wrote:
In light of the recent veiled (ha!) threats aimed at the creators of the television show South Park … by bloggers on Revolution Muslim’s website, we hereby deem May 20, 2010 as the first annual ‘Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!’ Do your part to both water down the pool of targets and, oh yeah, defend a little something our country is famous for (but maybe not for long? Comedy Central cooperated with terrorists and pulled the episode) the first amendment.
—Molly Norris (April 20, 2010), Molly.Norris.com
The poster included a claim of sponsorship by an organization named “Citizens Against Citizens Against Humor or CACAH (pronounced /ka.ka/)”, which Norris later said was purely fictional.[4] Norris dedicated the cartoon to the creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker.[5]
In late April, after she had rejected the idea for the May 20 protest, Norris stated on her website: “This was always a drawing about rights, never MEANT to disrespect religion. Alas — if we don’t have rights, we will not be able to practice the religion of our choice. [...] None of these little characters ARE the likeness of Mohammed, they are just CLAIMING to be!” She also wrote, “I, the cartoonist, NEVER launched a draw Mohammed day. It is, in this FICTIONAL poster sponsored by this FICTIONAL GROUP”, referring to the “Citizens Against Citizens Against Humor” wording in the cartoon. “SATIRE about a CURRENT EVENT, people!!! (That’s what cartoonist’s [sic] do!)
Background
Episode 201 of South Park, broadcast in early April 2010, featured a character in a bear costume, who various other characters stated was Muhammad.[7] The South Park episode sparked statements on the Revolution Muslim website.[8][9] The group running the website said it was not threatening Parker and Stone, however, it posted a picture of the partially decapitated body of the Dutch filmmaker, Theo van Gogh, a statement that Parker and Stone could meet the same fate, and the addresses of Comedy Central’s New York office and the California production studio where South Park is made.[10] Comedy Central self-censored the episode when it was broadcast by removing the word “Muhammad” and a speech about intimidation and fear from the South Park episode.[10]
Early publicity
Norris circulated the cartoon to bloggers based in Seattle, Washington.[11] She sent a copy of her illustration to Dan Savage, who posted it on his blog on April 22. On April 23, she told a Seattle radio talk show, “As a cartoonist I just felt so much passion about what had happened I wanted to kind of counter Comedy Central’s message they sent about feeling afraid.” She also said, “it’s a cartoonist’s job to be non-PC.”[12] On her website, Norris stated that the idea was not to disrespect Islam, but to support everybody’s freedom of expression.[13] In an interview with Dave Ross of KIRO, Norris responded to a question “Are you sure you want to do this?”, and said: “Yeah, I want to water down the targets … as a cartoonist I just felt so much passion about what had happened, I wanted to counter Comedy Central’s message about feeling afraid.”[14] Norris emphasized that the motivation for the protest was not simply to defend the South Park creators, but also to support the right to free speech under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.[15]
An “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” Facebook page was created by Jon Wellington. By the morning of April 26, the page had almost 6,000 confirmed guests. By April 25, someone had started a “Ban Everybody Draw Muhammad Day” counter-protest page on Facebook, which had 800 confirmed guests.[16] Bloggers at The Atlantic, Reason, National Review Online and Glenn Reynolds in his “Instapundit” blog, all posted comments and links about the proposed day, giving it wide publicity. Blogs at The Washington Post and Los Angeles Times websites also posted news about the idea.[3] Newser categorized the protest movement among, “online movements against tyranny”.[17] The Raw Story called the idea of the protest movement “a snarky response” to the threats from Revolution Muslim against South Park.[18] A blog was created for the fictional group “”Citizens Against Citizens Against Humor”, at http://www.cacah.org.11 A second Facebook group was created, to oppose the protest movement supported by the first group.[19]
By April 27, there were over 9,000 confirmed guests that planned to participate in the protest event.[20] A story about the protest movement was one of the most popular articles highlighted on the website Digg.com.[21] On April 28, The Malaysian Insider reported that the protest movement “appears to be gaining ground”, and some schools planned to join in the event.[22] Michael C. Moynihan of Reason stated he planned to select some of his favorite depictions of Muhammad from the protest movement, and then add them to the Reason.com website.[23] By May 3, 2010, there were 11,000 members of the protest movement on Facebook, and individuals had submitted over 460 pictures.[24]
Cartoonist and Facebook page creator end involvement
On April 25, Norris wrote on her website that the response to her idea had surprised and shocked her: “I did not intend for my cartoon to go viral. I did not intend to be the focus of any ‘group’. I practice the First Amendment by drawing what I wish. This particular cartoon of a ‘poster’ seems to have struck a gigantic nerve, something I was totally unprepared for. I am going back to the drawing table now!”[13][25] On April 26, she wrote on her website: “I am NOT involved in “Everybody Draw Mohammd [sic ] Day! I made a cartoon that went viral and I am not going with it. Many other folks have used my cartoon to start sites, etc. Please go to them as I am a private person who draws stuff”.[3] She also asked Savage to replace the original illustration she had given him with another one she drew that was tamer, but Savage refused. Asked why she initially publicized it, she replied, “Because I’m an idiot.”[3]
Norris said the campaign had grown much bigger than she initially intended, and that her cartoon was being used in ways she couldn’t control. “I just want to go back to my quiet life”, she told the writer of a blog about comics at The Washington Post.[16] Wellington announced on April 26 that he, too, was dropping out of the movement. “I am aghast that so many people are posting deeply offensive pictures of the Prophet,” he wrote.[26][3] “Y’all go ahead if that’s your bag, but count me out.”[3][26] Norris acknowledged, “I said that I wanted to counter fear and then I got afraid.”[2][27] On April 29, Norris suggested that “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” be called off: “Let’s call off ‘Everybody Draw Mohammed Day’ by changing it to ‘Everybody Draw Al Gore Day’ instead. Enough Mohammed drawings have already been made to get the point across. At this juncture, such drawings are only hurtful to more liberal and moderate Muslims who have not done anything to endanger our first amendment rights.”[28] On May 1, Norris posted a marked up version of her original cartoon, apologizing to Muslims.[4]
Norris’ change in position received varying reactions from commentators. Kathleen Parker, an opinion columnist for The Washington Post, wrote, “Norris’s cartoon was a fine idea, but she should be relieved of further duty or responsibility.”[29] Writing for The Daily Telegraph, Alex Spillius commented, “No one should blame Norris for withdrawing from the fray, for this kind of case throws up lingering and insidious uncertainties. Any threat could blow over quickly or endure, Rushdie-style, for decades. The row over the cartoons depicting Mohammed in the Danish paper Jyllands-Posten percolated for months before bubbling over into violent protests.”[30] William Wei of The Business Insider was more critical of the decision by the cartoonist to withdraw from the protest movement, with an article titled, “Artist Who Proposed ‘Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!’ To Protest South Park Censorship Wimps Out”.[31]
Protest movement continued
An information technology specialist based in Toronto, Canada, named Mimi helped to lead the protest movement in the wake of the departures of Norris and Wellington.[25][23] Mimi stated to AOL News that the protest movement should be regarded as, “pro-free speech, not anti-Muslim.”[23] She commented, “If [Muslims] are offended, they have the right to be offended – just like Christians.”[23] With regard to keeping with the tenets of Freedom of Speech, Mimi is permitting a wide array of depictions of Muhammad “except for those inciting violence or pornographic in nature.”[23] “Mainstream society does whatever the Muslim society asks out of fear of violence or political correctness. But if you want to live in a Western society and use the system to protect your rights, you have to be willing to allow others to have theirs as well,” said Mimi.[23]
According to Paste Magazine, by April 30, 2010, “Norris’ small protest [had] grown to encompass 32 Facebook events with a combined total of over 11,000 people planning to participate.”[32] Ron Nurwisah of National Post noted, “Norris’ backtracking might be a bit late as the event seems to have taken a life of its own,”[33] and FOX 9 also pointed out, “she may have started something she can’t stop. Others have taken up the cause of ‘Everybody Draw Muhammed Day’”.[2] Tim Edwards of The First Post pointed out, “It seems that nothing can now stop May 20, 2010 becoming the inaugural ‘Everybody Draw Mohammed Day’. Even if, in an ironic twist, its biggest backers have now been scared off.”[34]
Writing for ComicsAlliance, Laura Hudson noted that the website supported the protest movement and would participate in the event on May 20, 2010: “There is power in numbers, and if you’re an artist, creator, cartoonist, or basically anyone who would like to exercise your right to free speech in a way that it is actively threatened, that would be the day to do it. … if you’re an artist, cartoonist, or creator who plans to participate, drop us a line and let us know — we’ll be adding our own terribly drawn rendition of the prophet here on ComicsAlliance when the day rolls around and we’d love it if you joined us.”[35] In a May 3, 2010 piece for The Washington Post blog, the founder and president of the Secular Coalition for America, Herb Silverman, wrote in support of the protest movement.[36] Silverman stated he agreed with the rationale behind the idea, commenting, “Whether this succeeds or not, and I have no personal interest in drawing Muhammad, I support the concept. We must join together to stop injustice.”[36]
A columnist for The Washington Post Writers Group wrote that Norris should not be regarded as having further responsibility related to the movement; and affirmed that her Muhammad cartoon had significantly impacted a greater discussion about the issue.[37] Telepolis described some of the pictures submitted to the Facebook group in support of the protest movement as, “funny, funny, crude, silly, original, the whole range of possibilities.”[24] Jawa Report urged individuals to participate in the protest movement, but encouraged them to post images reflecting positively on Muhammad.[38] Writing in an editorial for The Washington Times, Jason Greaves urged individuals to participate in the protest event on May 20.[39] Greaves concluded, “Theo van Gogh was murdered for making a movie critical of Islam. ‘South Park’ creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are threatened with the same fate. They deserve our solidarity, and I will stand with them by hosting images of Muhammad on my own website. Please stand with us.”[39]
In a May 17, 2010 article in The Daily Bruin, writer Tyler Dosaj noted that numbers of both supporters and critics of the protest movement were increasing: “The Facebook group is 35,000 strong. To compare, the anti-Draw Mohammed Day group is almost 30,000 strong. Both are gaining members rapidly.”[40] In a May 18, 2010 article, “Why We’re Having an Everybody Draw Mohammed Contest on Thursday May 20″, Reason editor Nick Gillespie explained: “No one has a right to an audience or even to a sympathetic hearing, much less an engaged audience. But no one should be beaten or killed or imprisoned simply for speaking their mind or praying to one god as opposed to the other or none at all or getting on with the small business of living their life in peaceful fashion. If we cannot or will not defend that principle with a full throat, then we deserve to choke on whatever jihadists of all stripes can force down our throats.”[41] Gillespie asserted, “Our Draw Mohammed contest is not a frivolous exercise of hip, ironic, hoolarious sacrilege toward a minority religion in the United States (though even that deserves all the protection that the most serioso political commentary commands). It’s a defense of what is at the core of a society that is painfully incompetent at delivering on its promise of freedom, tolerance, and equal rights.”[41] As May 20, 2010, came closer, Molly Norris stated she was staying away from being directly involved in the protest movement.[42] Norris told Dave Ross, “I’m against my own concept becoming a reality. … If I had wanted to be taken seriously, I would be thrilled, but now I’m horrified because people did take it as an actual day. The one-off cartoon is not good as a long term plan because it’s offensive.”[42] FOX News reported that on May 19, 2010, a Facebook group supporting the protest movement had 41,000 members,[43] and The Register reported this increased to 43,000 the same day.[44] Norris told FOX News in a statement on May 19, “It’s turned into something completely different, nothing I could’ve imagined it morphing into. I’m happy some people are talking, because obviously this needs to be addressed.”[43]
Facebook banned in Pakistan
Subsequent to an order from the Lahore High Court on May 19, 2010,[45] the government of Pakistan through its agency the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) indefinitely banned Facebook in the country, in response to the impending May 20 date at the focus of the protest movement.[46][47] The order to carry out the shut down of Facebook in Pakistan was given by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority,[47] which also publicized an email address and phone number and requested individuals contact the agency to let them know about “all similar URLs where such objectionable material is found”.[48] Representative Khoram Ali Mehran of the Pakistan agency stated to CNN, “Obviously it (the blocking of Facebook) is related to the objectionable material that was placed on Facebook. That is why it is blocked. We have blocked it for an indefinite amount of time. We are just following the government’s instructions and the ruling of the Lahore High Court. If the government decides to unblock it then that’s what we will do.”[47] The agency was responding to an action by a group of Islamic attorneys based in Pakistan, who had acted to get the court order due to a Facebook group “Everybody Draw Mohammad Day — May 20″.[49][50] Azhar Siddique had filed the petition to the Lahore High Court on behalf of the organization, the Islamic Lawyers Forum.[51] The government also faced pressure from public protests against Facebook.[52] In its petition to the government, the Islamic Lawyers Forum described the “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” event as “blasphemous”.[53] Siddique told The Times, “The court has also ordered the foreign ministry to investigate why such a competition is being held.”[51] The lawyers succeeded in getting the government to block the Facebook group itself individually on May 18, but the Islamic lawyers requested a full block of the entirety of the Facebook site, because the organization had permitted the posting of the particular group on its site.[50] They also argued that unless the entire Facebook website were blocked, it would be difficult to stop the protest movement campaign on the site.[54] The Lahore court carried out this request, and ordered the government to issue a temporary block on Facebook to stand until May 31, 2010.[50] Justice Ejaz Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court issued the ruling of the court.[55][56] The court’s ruling determined that the content of the protest movement on Facebook would damage the religious beliefs of the 45 million users of the website in Pakistan.[57] The force of the ban was effective immediately after the ruling of the court.[58] Those present for the court’s ruling included many religious clerics, attorneys, and students.[59] The court will hold an in-depth hearing on the matter, on May 31, 2010.[56] The deputy attorney general of Punjab province, Naveed Inayat Malik, confirmed to the Press Association that the Lahore court had ordered Facebook banned in the country until May 31, 2010.[60] The Secretary of the Pakistan Ministry of Information Technology, Naguib Malik, told the Associated Press that he requested the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority to carry out the ruling of the Lahore court.[50] Pakistan Law Minister Babar Awan told ABC News, “this issue will be raised on all international forums.”[61] On his official facebook page, former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf supported the cause of opposing the Mohammed drawings group, stating “I feel it is extremely important to support this peaceful symbolic ban to protest against something we feel is offensive to our religion. This is not an extreme view and it is not done to harm anyone but everyone must have a right to voice an opinion on such important matters. I start now as in some countries it is already the 20th of May!” According to Press Trust of India, by mid-day on May 19, 2010, individuals in Pakistan were not able to gain access to the Facebook site via computer, but could get entry using a smartphone.[62] The Hindu reported that prior to the court’s ruling, multiple internet service providers had taken independent action to block Facebook, in light of protests against the website in Pakistan.[63]
The May 20 plans of the protest movement had sparked demonstrations in the streets of Pakistan and objections to Facebook by groups including the Pakistan-based Muslim Lawyers Movement.[64] In several Pakistani cities demonstrators burned the Norwegian flag.[65] In Lahore both Swedish and Danish flags were also burned,[66] although the Norwegian News Agency reports that the Norwegian flag was burned mistakenly in the belief that it was the Danish.[65] A lawyer involved in the action in the Lahore court, Rai Bashir, told The Daily Telegraph, “There are so many insults to the Prophet on the internet and that’s why we felt we had to bring this case. All Muslims in Pakistan and the world will be supporting us.”[64] Bashir explained to Sky News, “We moved the petition in the wake of widespread resentment in the Muslim community against the Facebook contest.”[56] Islamic Lawyers Forum attorney, Chaudhry Zulfikar Ali, told Xinhua News Agency, “The competition has hurt the sentiments of the Muslims.”[67] Protesters against Facebook and “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” converged in Karachi on May 19, 2010, and held up signs and yelled phrases critical of Facebook.[68] According to the Associated Press, approximately 2,000 female students protested in Karachi, urging the banning of Facebook for permitting the “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” movement on the site.[69] Agence France-Presse reported that there were approximately 20 individuals demonstrating outside the court in Lahore after its decision, holding signs which were negative regarding Facebook.[70] Picketers outside the court also held up signs praiseworthy of Muhammad.[71] One protest sign at a picket in Lahore read: “We love Muhammad. Say No to Facebook.”[72] BBC News noted reports in Pakistan media that there were protests against Facebook on May 19, 2010 outside parliament in Islamabad.[73] Individuals passed on text messages, requesting other Facebook users to support the ban on the website.[68] Attorneys standing outside the Lahore court on May 19, 2010 were repeating the phrase, “Down with Facebook”.[74] Protests against Facebook were organized in Lahore, Kasur, Narowal, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Peshawar; by Pakistan-based religious parties including Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Jamiat Tulba and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam.[75] According to The Financial Express, “protests against the website were held across the country”.[76] The Vancouver Sun reported that Hamid Saeed Kazmi, Pakistan Religious Affairs Minister, “strongly condemned” the Facebook groups’ efforts and requested Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani “to take immediate action and call a Muslim conference”.[77]
The Facebook group had supporters including Geert Wilders, a Dutch politician, and Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a feminism activist originally from Somalia.[49] An Islamic student association based in Lahore, Pakistan, handed out pamphlets requesting individuals to boycott Facebook; the pamphlet stated: “The west is conspiring against the honour of the prophet and of Muslims. The real purpose of freedom of speech is to provoke the sentiments of Muslims.”[49] A representative of the Karachi-based internet company Creative Chaos named Shakir Husain told The Guardian that a ban of Facebook would not be easy to carry out due to the ability to circumvent it using tactics such as proxy servers.[49] Husain noted, “By banning this web page, it will just make people more curious. It’s pouring petrol on a small fire that could become a lot bigger. You can’t police the Internet. The Saudis have tried it, as have other governments, and all have failed. It’s a waste of state money.”[49] The CEO of the company Nayatel, Wahaj-us-Siraj, told Reuters that the decision of the Lahore court was not wise: “Blocking the entire website would anger users, especially young adults, because the social networking website is so popular among them and they spend most of their time on it. Basically, our judges aren’t technically sound. They have just ordered it, but it should have been done in a better way by just blocking a particular URL or link.”[78] The Gabriel Consulting Group analyst Dan Olds commented about the Pakistan government’s ban to Computerworld, “I think we can expect to see more of this type of thing coming from dictatorial countries as they try to keep their citizenry locked down.”[79] Olds observed, “Trying to stop citizens from accessing the Internet is increasingly becoming like a little kid trying to stop the tide with a toy shovel and a bucket.”[79] An editorial in the Pakistan-based newspaper the Express Tribune commented on the ban of Facebook, “Many users of the social media website have put up their own pages expressing their admiration for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) — surely this is a better response. Furthermore, the said page is one of millions on Facebook and blocking it entirely means that millions of users in Pakistan will be unable to access a site which has become part of their daily life. A better way would be to block the offensive web page but allow users in this country access to the rest of Facebook.”[80]
A representative of Facebook told CBS News that the block of the website in Pakistan was under investigation by the company.[74] The company released a statement on May 19, 2010: “While the content does not violate our terms, we do understand it may not be legal in some countries. We are investigating this. In cases like this, the approach is sometimes to restrict certain content from being shown in specific countries.”[74]
Reactions in other Muslim countries
The Jakarta Globe reported that several Muslim religious scholars in Indonesia were critical of Facebook in light of the protest movement.[81] Rohadi Abdul Fatah the Indonesia, Religious Affairs Ministry director of Islam and Shariah Law, announced that Facebook was to be considered haram (forbidden) according to Muslim law.[81] Rohadi Abdul Fatah stated, “We cannot tolerate it. Those who created the account were extremely irresponsible.”[81] Indonesia Communication and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring stated to The Jakarta Globe, “I consider this an act of provocation to mess up religious harmony enjoyed by Indonesians. I call on everybody to stay calm. Let us all just cool down.”[81] Sembiring stated his intention to write the management of Facebook, and noted, “Removing it is useless because other party can just post it again on the account. Therefore, we all need to be aware of this.”[82]
Commentary
The idea for the May 20 protest received support from Kathleen Parker, an opinion columnist for The Washington Post: “Americans love their free speech and have had enough of those who think they can dictate the limits of that fundamental right. [...] Draw to any heart’s discontent. It’s a free country. For now.”[29] The idea also received support from prominent bloggers and bloggers on prominent websites, such as Michael C. Moynihan at Reason magazine’s “Hit & Run” blog, who encouraged his readers to send him their drawings.[83] Moynihan stated he planned to select some of his favorite depictions of Muhammad from the protest movement, and then add them to the Reason.com website.[23][83] Moynihan commented, “In the South Park episode that started all this, Buddha does lines of coke and there was an episode where Cartman started a Christian rock band that sang very homo-erotic songs. Yet there is one religious figure we can’t make fun of. The point of the episode that started the controversy is that celebrities wanted Muhammad’s power not to be ridiculed. How come non-Muslims aren’t allowed to make jokes?”[23] Moynihan noted, “Any time you cave into terrorism, it emboldens extremists,” and posited that the decision of Comedy Central to enact self-censorship of the South Park episode would have the impact of worsening the situation.[23]
Maayana Miskin of Arutz Sheva characterized the movement as “a mass protest”.[84] Writing for The American Thinker, Ethel C. Fenig described the protest movement as a cause for Freedom of Speech, “Actually the main prize is the opportunity to stand up for freedom of speech. Other prizes are varying degrees of fame, annoying the liberal media plus multiple opportunities to be politically incorrect.”[85] Westword commented positively on the protest idea, ” The Everybody Draw Mohammed campaign urges Americans to defend their right to free speech by drawing pictures of the Muslim prophet and publishing them on May 20. Sounds like an idea we’d like to frame.”[86] The editor of Family Security Matters, Pam Meister, discussed the protest movement from the perspective of Freedom of Speech, and commented, “I do not advocate going out of one’s way to offend someone else. However, I realize that in a free society, someone is always going to be doing or saying something that will offend somebody somewhere. I also realize that more free speech, not censorship, is the answer.”[87] Meister concluded, “‘Draw Mohammed Day’ may be offensive to some, but it would be worse than offensive for us to sit idly by while Islamists call the shots and further encroach upon our freedoms. It could well mean the eventual end of our society as we know it.”[87]
Law professor and blogger Ann Althouse rejected the idea because “depictions of Muhammad offend millions of Muslims who are no part of the violent threats.”[88] James Taranto, writing in the “Best of the Web Today” column at The Wall Street Journal, also objected to the idea, not only because depicting Mohammed “is inconsiderate of the sensibilities of others”, but also because “it defines those others—Muslims—as being outside of our culture, unworthy of the courtesy we readily accord to insiders.”[89] Writing for New York University’s Center for Religion and Media publication, The Revealer, Jeremy F. Walton called the event a “blasphemous faux holiday”, which would “only serve to reinforce broader American misunderstandings of Islam and Muslims”.[90] Janet Albrechtsen wrote in The Australian, “As a cartoon, it was mildly amusing. As a campaign, it’s crass and gratuitously offensive.”[91] Bill Walsh of Bedford Minuteman wrote critically of the idea: “Although it’s clever, it’s also an ‘in your face’ reaction to the prohibition against drawing the holy figure. It attempts to battle religious zealotry with rudeness and sacrilege, and we can only wait to see what happens, but I fear it won’t be good.”[92] Andrew Mellon of Big Journalism wrote in favor of the protest movement, commenting, “All freedom-loving Americans should get behind this. … The bottom line is that the First Amendment guarantees free speech including criticism of all peoples. We are an equal-opportunity offense country. To censor ourselves to avoid upsetting a certain group (in a cartoon no less) is un-American.”[93]
Rich Trzupek of FrontPage Magazine commented on the options available to “radical jihadists” in the face of the protest movement: “Reason Magazine declared May 20 ‘Everybody Draw Mohammed Day.’ More of the same, we can be sure, will be coming. That leaves radical jihadists with the same uncomfortable, impossible choice that the British government faced in 1776 when Paine’s pamphlet first hit the streets. They can ignore the “make fun of Mohammed” movement, which will do nothing but embolden more Americans to do the same. Alternately, they can attack the growing number of Americans who dare to crack a joke at the expense of the founder of Islam, but doing so would simply outrage even more citizens who heretofore have stood silently on the sidelines, hoping that radical Islam might somehow fade away.”[94] Writing for The American Spectator, Jeremy Lott commented positively about the protest movement: “While the suits at Comedy Central and Yale University Press have been cowed, people across the country have decided to speak up and thereby magnify the offense a thousandfold. On Facebook and elsewhere, May 20 is being dubbed Everybody Draw Mohammad Day. One sponsor is the fictitious group Citizens Against Citizens Against Humor, but previous experience suggests that the blowback could be no laughing matter.”[95]
Helge Rønning, a professor at the Institute of Media and Communication at the University of Oslo, said the offense to Muslims was outweighed by freedom-of-speech concerns. “Indignation from those who claim the right to engage in criticism of religion is as important as the indignation that comes from the Muslim side,” he told the NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation). “I think that this is an attitude that goes deeper than whether these drawings are blasphemous or not.” Vebjørn Selbekk, a Norwegian editor who was threatened in 2006 after he reprinted Danish cartoons of Mohammed in his publication, supported the May 20 protest. “I think maybe this is the right way to react—with humor, and also to spread this number, so it isn’t only a few who sit with all the threats and all the discomfort associated with defending our freedom of speech in this area,” he said.[96] In an analysis of the protest movement and surrounding controversy, staff writer Liliana Segura of AlterNet noted, “In a democratic society where free speech is vigilantly protected, it is perfectly reasonable to call out censorship, particularly when it springs from some form of tyrannical religious extremism.”[97]
The protest movement and incidents surrounding the censorship of the South Park episode were discussed on the National Public Radio program, Talk of the Nation, where commentators including Ross Douthat analyzed the phenomenon of Norris withdrawing from the cartoon.[98] Stephanie Gutmann of The Daily Telegraph wrote that she had joined the Facebook group, “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day May 20th 2010″, and commented that if the 2010 Times Square car bomb attempt was found to be related to the South Park episode “200″, “this sort of protest will be more important than ever”.[99] Writing for The Faster Times, journalist Noah Lederman noted that Norris’ cartoon, “was her way of supporting the show’s creators and the First Amendment.”[100] Mario Roy of La Presse discussed the incident, and noted, “it is likely that institutions will apply more and more self-censorship. Fearing a possible threat, nothing is worse than the fear of fear.”[101] Writing for Financial Times, John Lloyd commented on the decision by Norris to withdraw from the protest movement.[102] Lloyd noted, “Molly Norris proposed a ‘let’s everyone draw Mohammed day’ – then, apparently appalled by her own audacity, backed quickly away.”[102]
Writing for Religion Dispatches, Austin Dacey compared the protest movement to Martin Luther: “Forget the South Park dust up; forget Everybody Draw Muhammad Day. If you want to see truly shocking anti-religious cartoons, you have to go back to the sixteenth century. Near the end of Luther’s life, his propaganda campaign against Rome grew increasingly vitriolic and his language grotesquely pungent.”[103] Dacey argued, “The debate over cartoon depictions of the Prophet Muhammad is often framed as a clash between free speech and religious attitudes. But it is just as much a clash between conflicting religious attitudes, and the freedom at stake is not only freedom of expression but freedom of religion. For while Luther was surely engaging in offensive speech, he was also exercising a right of freedom of conscience, which included the right to dissent from Catholic orthodoxy.”[103] In an analysis of the protest movement for the Daily Bruin, journalist Jordan Manalastas commented, “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day is a chance to reinstate offense and sincerity to their proper place, freed from terror or silence. … The proper (and, at the risk of looking jingoistic, American) way to combat bad speech is with better speech. To silence and be silenced are the refuge of cowards.”[104] In an analysis of the protest movement for Spiked, Brendan O’Neill was critical of the concept of “mocking muhammad”, writing, “… these two camps – the Muhammad-knockers and the Muslim offence-takers – are locked in a deadly embrace. Islamic extremists need Western depictions of Muhammad as evidence that there is a new crusade against Islam, while the Muhammad-knockers need the flag-burning, street-stomping antics of the extremists as evidence that their defence of the Enlightenment is a risky, important business.”[105]
THats a very gud thing done by our government
so that thy stop those things agianst islam
LOOOL!
It’s not like there hasn’t been a ton of anti-american sentiment or anti-semitic sentiment on Facebook. Suck it up.
Oh and by the way, my bosses are Pakistani and they’re livid that Facebook has been blocked. So are their families. So much for the supposed “unanimous anti-facebook sentiment”
Oh look we all hate free speech!
As a Pakistani I am ashamed at this nannying behaviour. I used to consider myself completely capable of protecting my thoughts and opinions but CLEARLY the courts and authorities think they know better. Pathetic. As if this is the most important issue concerning muslims today. Ignorance and insecurity are fast becoming the modern muslim’s hallmarks. Troubling signs indeed.
The ignorance displayed by a good deal of commenters on this article is astounding. I don’t know whether to laugh or have an even diminished faith in our species.
Suck it up you damning Infidels. Let us celebrate HAPPY HOLOCAUST DAY ON EVERY 20th MAY! this is not freedom of speech, this is sacrilege, blasphemy.. It’s downright hatred and Islamophobia. All these bastards are atheists who don’t know the meaning of religion. Islam is the only true religion. and a message to “BlasphemyIsFun”, do u know who fathered you???
“Suck it up you damning Infidels”
Some ones is agree. Do you need a nap little boy?
“Let us celebrate HAPPY HOLOCAUST DAY ON EVERY 20th MAY!”
Okay I join as long as there is free beer. Other wise I will stay home and watch the parade on TV.
“this is not freedom of speech, this is sacrilege, blasphemy..”
Actually it is freedom of speech. Do you even know what freedom of speech is? As for blasphemy one could only hope it was that is if your god actually existed. But wait not everyone agrees that your God exist. So to them (my self included) its not blasphemy. I guess you can say one mans blasphemy is another mans joke.
“It’s downright hatred and Islamophobia”
Yeah that must be it…Ugh your a idiot. Feel free to read the wiki article I posted it. Just in case that’s blocked. Other wise feel free to live ignorantly.
“All these bastards are atheists who don’t know the meaning of religion.”
Wow you like just pull this stuff out of your worn out brown eye and assert it to be true. Umm… hello many atheist use to be part of religions and some atheist are even part or religions like some forms of Buddhism that are atheistic religions. Wow its looks l you have no clue about the meaning of religion. You really know how to embarrass your self there by looking stupid.
“Islam is the only true religion.”
Before making that claim First provide evidence a God. then after you do that you will need to provided evidence that your religion is really the religion that this God thing you call allah had in mind. Until then your claim is rejected as made up nonsense.
“and a message to “BlasphemyIsFun”, do u know who fathered you???”
Yes my father. duh… Why? do you think that I was the result of a virgin birth? Oh wait. That can’t be. DNA test show that may father was my biological father. So sorry a virgin birth is out of the question. That is unless allah the unholy implanted fake DNA in me to make it look like my father was my father. Oh my a allah conspiracy.
Oh and don’t let me for get a little fun blasphemy…

uh….im actually his father….thats cuz his mom was a dirty WHORE!!!
You guys act as though these sites only have Anti-Islam propaganda.
Facebook, YouTube and Wikipedia also have anti-West content….
Hay now don’t tell them that. They may start thinking that this really is a free-speech issue and not a anti islam thing
Pakistani government has done nothing wrong. Has anyone of you ever read the terms and conditions of facebook, they clearly say that any material that will violate or indirectly harm an individual is not allowed, here this page (contest) has brought pain to millions of Muslims, and still they say that it is freedom of speech.
Start a page by saying draw JESUS cartoon day, then see where the freedom of speech goes, that page will be blocked immediately.
We muslims never harm anyone, there are always blacksheeps in every religion, but a religion or majority can not be blamed just because of few black sheeps.
No one should be given authority to blame others religion, and say bad things about it.
There’s a LOT of Jesus defamation out online that’s in America.
Jesus is on South Park for one, the same show that was under fire for having the Prophet Mohammad on. There’s also various webcomics, pictures, etc. and I don’t see them being banned.
Online, you know, with freedom of speech I’m sure with a quick Google search I can find a good deal of images making fun of or defaming everything and everyone.
@ Mudasir
you are so right when you say about terms and conditions of facebook
but plz note this is not about fight between islam and christianity, it is the fight between believers and satanists a true believer whether muslim or christian will never do such things
it is the satanists the luciferians doing all this, they have already deprived the west of their religion christianity and now their target is Islam.
just look at the movies being made having religius mockery they dont spare any divine religion. who is doing this all? the satan worshippers, not the believers be they muslims or true christians
so right now the best solution is to protect divine religions, all of them
I feel the reaction is over the top. Why would you acknowledge couple of nobodies by protesting against them and making them famous ?
My question is that if we are offended by such material why would we go looking for it ? and if we are not looking for it why are we offended ?
Well, if Youtube.com or facebook.com are agree to remove that insulting material Pakistan govt. should allow these sites in Pakistan.
PTA should block all type of porn sites also.
cant you resist the temptation?
why not start by banning TV ads they have these females who smile and that smile is provocative … then maybe ban the movies cause you know the dance moves are way to vulgar … then lets ban the women colleges cause the boys follow them so lets just ban everything
mate no one is forcing you to watch porn or anti-muslim stuff on the internet … you control what you view
I am a Pakistani and a Facebook addict! I live to play games like FarmVille and Treasure Isle. I am all for freedom of speech, etc but all the same I support the ban on Facebook in Pakistan over this issue and i would also encourage other Muslim countries to do the same. We respect our Prophet a lot and although we cannot expect the same from the rest of the world or even expect them to understand where we are coming from, we do need to show them that disrespect like this will not be tolerated. This applies not only to depictions of Prophet Muhammad but also of Prophet Moses, Jesus, Abraham, etc. We respect, love and revere all the Prophets and we do not appreciate any of them being ridiculed in the name of freedom of speech! I hope Facebook faces severe losses as a result of this ban and learns a lesson! It is wrong to offend and ridicule other religions in the name of free speech. We probably respect Prophet Jesus more than the Christians themselves, if you can’t do that for Prophet Muhammad then at least don’t be disrespectful. I don’t think that is asking for too much!
agreed! I am a facebook addict too. but this act against Prophet Muhammad PBUH is not right. I am planning to quit facebook forever.

I condemned in severe words; that western are continuously trying to target Islam why is that so? are they really afraid of Muslims and the answer is yes, people are now accepting the ultimate truth Quran and Islam is spreading all around the world continuously and such things couldn’t be bothered by western; u can’t hide the ultimate truth, Islam strictly prohibits the depiction of any Prophet as blasphemous and Muslims all over the world, try to spread the words of love rather than oppressing the religious susceptibilities of any religion. Be mature who are involved in such shameful and unethical acts and learn how to give and to take respect. LIVE LOVE ISLAM & MUSLIMS Amin
It’s like most of the people here are deliberately trying to miss the point on purpose. What part of freedom of speech don’t you people understand? If everything can be up for scrutiny in one country, then why ban the depiction of one character in that same country? Wouldn’t that, in turn, limit the point of putting everything else up for scrutiny to begin with and therefore contradict the thought of free speech?
To the ass hurt Muslim coming up with the whole “holocaust never happened day” crap:
You’re deliberately taking an entirely different concept and claiming it as the same thing. Do you honestly think that supporting antisemitism would go far to begin with? And are you also insinuating that you can’t distinguish a protest AGAINST hate speech with the very hate speech your extreme fundamental pals started with from the very beginning?
All religions suck ass. Not just Islam. All of it. For starting holy wars to spreading falsehoods and from shutting scholars up and for causing fear, pain and anguish over corrupt personal gain. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain? Fuck religion. Take your delusional faith. . . doesn’t matter what it is since it could be any of them, learn to accept that not everyone abides by your perspectives and culture, and grow the fuck up.
what would you response to the Eu Government In April 2007 the European Union agreed to set jail sentences up to three years for those who deny or trivialize the Holocaust.1 More recently, in response to the remarks of Bishop Richard Williamson, the Pope has proclaimed that Holocaust denial is “intolerable and altogether unacceptable that is not Govt Of Pakistan that is West World why they impose Jail to people who deny Holocaust so actually you people are stupid.. and have double Stander Let people talk freely about holocaust why putting them in jail ?? your Pope Claimend that now you FUCK off
Holocaust denial usually also goes hand in hand with Nazi beliefs and antisemitism, which all includes intellectually dishonest ideas and promotes violence above anything else. Again, you’re taking a concept that is universally accepted as a falsehood and known as something that is both intellectually dishonest and potentially dangerous. However, if people who happen to deny the holocaust ever happening, yet don’t in turn harm anyone for this thought, then they don’t deserve to serve jail sentences.
You’re outright making up my position on anything else, and arguing against a position that I don’t support at all.
I even made it clear that I’m not religious at all, yet you slander me, and accuse me of supporting a corrupt person like the pope. Yeah, I’m pretty sure you’re holding the double standard here.
Why they do not criticize Islam with logic, because they have not any theory of reasoning on it. they do not like Islam for their own reasons and they have no logic they see easy bullying Islam.
We Muslims will welcome you if you will come with a solid reasoning.
“Why they do not criticize Islam with logic, because they have not any theory of reasoning on it.”
Because there’s little to no logic on your part. The burden of proof rests on believers, yet the sole foundation of faith is to believe without evidence. That would be like saying that there’s a flying tea pot orbiting space that cannot be seen by any modern telescope, and that it’s there because it is. . . that’s religion in a nut shell.
Where’s the logic in that?
“hey do not like Islam for their own reasons and they have no logic they see easy bullying Islam.”
Look at South Park, they practically “bullied” every other concept put out there and also “bullied” Buddhism, Christianity, Scientology, and even a non belief like Atheism, yet when South Park include a picture of “Muhammad” it’s called “bullying” on your part. Yeah, that makes perfect sense; especially, when a man like Theo Van Gogh is deliberately murdered in the name of Islam.
“We Muslims will welcome you if you will come with a solid reasoning.”
You lack any solid reasoning whatsoever. And I doubt most of the people in Pakistan even know what the difference between a dissenting opinion and “hate speech” truly are in reality.
“Because there’s little to no logic on your part. The burden of proof rests on believers, yet the sole foundation of faith is to believe without evidence. That would be like saying that there’s a flying tea pot orbiting space that cannot be seen by any modern telescope, and that it’s there because it is. . . that’s religion in a nut shell.
Where’s the logic in that?”
Dear EP,
The faith and and belief you are talking about I think is the common thing which hold Christians, Jewish and all Ibrahim descendant religions.
The current issue is not genuineness or falsehood of a religion but it is that in modern era who is creating troubles, who is invader and who is entered in the country by military force, where do you see Muslims entered in non-Muslim countries. In Palestine, in Iraq or in Afghanistan. In the near past Spanish, Portuguese and other Europeans invaded America and killed natives, in Australia they killed natives they invaded Asia and Africa but they were not able to erase nations residing here. It is the reason you are feeling unhappy. You are in a complex that you are only owners of the earth. You want this globe cleared and cleansed for you. You killed and again killed but we were able to gain our lives again, it is the feeling of despair which turns you into killing machine you invented most dangerous weapons for killing people, you invented affairs to keep Muslims occupied.
“The current issue is not genuineness or falsehood of a religion but it is that in modern era who is creating troubles”
Okay. So you’re insinuating that because the government did something stupid, the people themselves are held accountable for their mistakes? Okay, by that logic you guys shouldn’t be able to talk for holding peoples views accountable for death when apostasy is involved.
“The current issue is not genuineness or falsehood of a religion but it is that in modern era who is creating troubles”
Yes, it is. If you noticed the poor excuse of a government the US had with Bush, and how idiots like him decided to invade for their own personal gain with their own falsehood of whatever narrow minded perspective on the world the Bush administration had at the time.
“who is invader and who is entered in the country by military force, where do you see Muslims entered in non-Muslim countries. In Palestine, in Iraq or in Afghanistan. In the near past Spanish, Portuguese and other Europeans invaded America and killed natives”
Yeah, usually out of personal gain and for whatever corrupt agenda anyone may have; either for oil or any other resource some country apparently wants. And it’s usually out of religious reasons that have both groups who happen to be fundamentalists of their own religions, and because of this it is thrown out there to show that both sides are full of arrogant pricks who don’t know what the hell they’re doing.
“You are in a complex that you are only owners of the earth.”
Not at all. If you noticed, most of the more atheistic countries that do not have religion promoted through politics and the government tend to be more tolerant to anything and are known to be a lot more peaceful than the people threatening others for beliefs that do not apply to other people. Look at how peaceful Norway can be when compared to countries that do push religion into the government.
“You killed and again killed but we were able to gain our lives again, it is the feeling of despair which turns you into killing machine you invented most dangerous weapons for killing people, you invented affairs to keep Muslims occupied.”
Okay, so you switched goal posts and decided to switch to what the government did instead; when in this case, it was over a damn drawing that the so called “peaceful” religion Islam allowed for the insane fundamentalists to torture and mutilate another human being.
We’re discussing the hypocrisy of the people for the beliefs that are frowned upon by other countries, NOT the governments making all of us look bad and therefore destroying everything that could be peaceful. If we went by this logic, NO ONE and I mean NO ONE would have the reason to talk at all; since every government on this planet did something stupid at one point or another. How would you like it if every Christian thought to kill Islam’s followers for not believing the entire Jesus story as true? That’s not the way to go, and I certainly despise Christianity just as much. If it were Christians doing the slaughtering over free speech and if the extreme fundamental Muslims were tolerant enough to not hurt anyone, then I would side with you guys. But with the whole ban taking place and the government getting annoyed over the fact that there are other people out there who don’t believe in Islam, I’d stick with my position until something else happens.
I say keep the beliefs to the individual only, and let the people in charge handle things through a more peaceful, modern perspective on the world. Who gives a fuck if someone doesn’t believe what you want to believe? Leave the religious people out of the government and there will be more improvements for the world.
Also, you act as if I were in charge of the mess, and act as if I were the one who slaughtered your brethren. This isn’t the case, and it’s sad that you would simply resort to logical fallacies to argue a point that isn’t even related to the facebook event at all.
well, it’s simple, u hate us
and u cant do anything about it so, u start this crap.
and btw, making drawings of any of the prophets is forbidden.
No, I don’t like the beliefs and the governments involved. I’d imagine that the people of Pakistan are pretty awesome, but that it would be better if religion didn’t become a huge issue and if everyone were allowed to mock anything they wanted and to have basic human rights as well.
Go and mock every other religion if you want. I’ll join in with the blasphemy; just make it so we can also make fun of Muhammad as well, and then just laugh at off for the silliness of it all.
“making drawings of any of the prophets is forbidden.”
I really wish it wasn’t for the people in the middle east. It would be wonderful to see other people just playing around with each others views of gods, and then at the end of the day just to laugh it off and just hang out and maybe have a beer or something right after. =P
this is very good act against these unbelievers…we all should support this act of PTA
we want permanent ban on these websites….lets move forward n make our own muslim’s internet world
It is totally wrong and unbearable to play with the beliefs of someone’s religion….. I totally condemn it… Hats off to Pakistan Supreme Court, Pakistani people and PTA. Great job….
We highly protest the bad intentions of freedom of expression leading to hurt muslims and degrading their religious matters
well this is a very irresponsible act on behalf of facebook. im happy that it has been banned. as far as youtube and wikipedia are concerned, well they shouldnt be blocked, as there are alot of people who used it for learning.
it was a nice bold and good decision of pakistan.it is ethical according to unethical rules of business also
i think Islam is the only fast spreading religion in the west. the west cannot bear this. they are testing Muslims by done such shameful and disgraceful acts. we as Muslims have full right to protest against such unlawful act. it is the duty of each individual to ban/not visit such sites.
So you protest that against other people being able to protest and claim you have the right to protest? Oh sweet irony…
muslims are paranoid people, i feel sorry for them, i don’t understand why they feel this way, like someone wants to hurt them, i dont have nothing agains them and i dont know anyone who has something agains them, i have better things to do then hate islam. get a life and proper education.
How can you say Muslims are paranoid, in modern era who is creating troubles, who is invader on other countries and who is entered in the country by military force, where do you see Muslims entered in non-Muslim countries. We Muslims just just came out of your Imperialistic regimes we have reasons to be careful of you and your hegemony.
come on dude, do you know something about history? you talk about modern era and you writing about near past and Portuguese and Spanish in america thats 15 century! have you bad short memory? you remember Iraq invaded Kuvait? do you know that muslims killing other muslims by suicide bombers? do you know about this? you remember 11.9.2001 in USA? do you know that Muslims genocide native Sudan people in Africa? you know that? do you think Islamic regimes are perfect? do you know what taliban is? hegemony? you must be joking! everybody knows its all about money! only hegemony are money, ask in SAE. you say “You”, but who is “You” for you? CHINA? ARGENTINA? EU? ISRAEL? JAPAN? USA? IVORY COAST? sorry man, but its your religion saying “KILL ALL WHO DOES NOT BELIEVE”.
@Tim Im sure that TIm also belong to that nation who don’t use there own brain keep repeating the stories that they see in there media , why u people not talk about UAS is the one who use Atomic bomb in Japan, start war in Vietnam and run back like rats to there hole ,the raciest the put board for black people dog and black not allowed in hotels ? make a hype for iraq have weapon of mass distraction, supporting the same Mujahideans in Destroying Russia in 1980 , 9/11 inside job bush senior was the partner of osama ben laden and, israel occupied Philistine, there are list of people who denial holocaust was murdered by Holocaust Enforcers. Since then, hundreds of writers, researchers, historians, even clergy and others who dared to question the Holocaust Dogma have been arrested, fined, imprisoned – even kidnapped! none of them was muslim nor killed by muslim .
the name of the people
,Dr. Robert Faurisson He was also the first to insist that only a U.S. gas chamber expert could unravel the technical impossibility of the Auschwitz homicidal gassing story
Thies Christophersen
Forced to flee from country to country. Hounded to death after numerous acid attacks, arson, and attempts on his life and property. only because He was the first Revisionist eyewitness to come forward stating categorically that there were no gas chambers for killing humans in Auschwitz.
and many more if u want to read about them http://www.zundelsite.org/debate/victims/index.html you will come to know how so called moderate , liberal and peach loving society you belong to
dear khan, i don’t judge people by race, nation, religion or society. i dont know what are you talking about. i just feel sorry for all blinded (brainwashed) people. i dont understand why you talking about Auschwitz when you probably wouldnt know where it is without google maps. i feel in my bones that you will ban google also soon so you can stay fools forever. peace
Dear tim as I said u don’t have the brain to think to you will not understand what im saying because you people are brainwashed not us ? why im talking about it was the answer of you comment that you wrote above .. why im talking caz some one fool living in fools world also know what is going on in the world in past if u ever went to any school and know the history then u will know.. im sure u even don’t know how many states you have in your country or where is Germany .where you wining like women about holocaust and telling the world about nazi killed how many jews by the way Hitler was a Christine too not Muslim, why you people not call him christen instead of Nazi ??
When I say you it is westerners. Yes Muslims are killing to Muslims where are Muslims those are killing to non-Muslims? “you remember 11.9.2001 in USA? “, will you give me the name, which Muslim country has claimed this attack? it was a fabricated attack by you people. When as USA attacks Muslim areas by crossing thousands of kilometers only because Mr. Bush went through a nightmare. Mr. Bush claimed he is starting a crusade again. “do you know that Muslims genocide native Sudan people in Africa?” Sudan Government is also native not alien, these Darfur people did not have any problem since 2003 until westerners supplied arms and dollars there. Taliban are invention of US to kill actual freedom fighters. In the history 4 or 5 hundred years do not count it is just a fraction of time. USA sponsored slavery, they kidnapped people of Africa until 18th century. Actually you westerners want cleared and cleansed Asia and Africa for you, your mind set is not able to allow to live others. USA used nuclear bomb on Asia (two times). Not facebook but some users of facebook are threatening Muslims but facebook officials are not discouraging these fanatics. Where do you see Muslims has insulted leaders of non-Muslims? why you people go to blaspheme our Prophet by giving a reason even when you fight with a drugged person in a NY street because his name was like a Muslim?
ok let talk about holocaust why jews and christine are paranoid why they just can’t let people a freedom to speak there mind why they get hurt if some one deny the holocaust there are hundred of people who get iin jail only they not accept the base less story that holocaust a lie there noting any truth behind a fake story of holocaust none of them was muslim nor living in any muslim country those who try to investigate the truth of holocaust was well educated why they not letting them to speak the truth In April 2007 the European Union agreed to set jail sentences up to three years for those who deny or trivialize the Holocaust.1 More recently, in response to the remarks of Bishop Richard Williamson, the Pope has proclaimed that Holocaust denial is “intolerable and altogether unacceptable.” why the bishop Richard Williamson the Pope claim Intolerable and unacceptable im sure he lived in So called liberal and free country moderate society why he wanted people not to talk on this issue i don’t understand it at all the double stander..
Freedom of speech and expression all sound great. We all want to express what we feel, and have the freedom to dot.
But who wants Jesus was a bastard day? Or Mosses needs a life day? Dont such days promote hatred? Why do something that will just piss people off, and wont even acheive anything. Okay.. so you want to draw prophets. Why? How will that help a countries progress? There is nothing to acheive from doing this. It has all turned in to this Islam vs. the rest of the world’s religion debate. Why is there so much hatred out there? Okay so fiiinnnneeee… Muslim extremists destroyed the twin towers, but look what the Americans are doing in Iraq and Afghanistan. Its a way of balancing things. You kill our people, we kill yours. Stay in your own country and you’ll live. Communism and democracy… just stop with it. Address global warming, that’ll kill us before extremists do. Just STOP people. Just live and let live and dont disturb a hornets nest, it’l only bite your ass.
I totally agree to you. Who destroyed the twin towers it is not claimed by any well-known Muslim country or even organization. Muslims condemned this practice but America and Europeans do not hide themselves when they kill Muslims.
British historian David Irving has been found guilty in Vienna of denying the Holocaust of European Jewry and sentenced to three years in prison. where is freedom of speech ? on other side the same West Protecting Rushidi Mallon who write book against the Holy Messenger of Muslims so called civilized modern countries why not they tolerate freedoms of speech
COUNTRIES WITH LAWS AGAINST HOLOCAUST DENIAL 5 year sentence who denial Holocaust
Austria,Belgium,Czech Republic,France,Germany,Israel,Lithuania,Poland,Romania,Slovakia,Switzerland
9/11 was inside job Senior Bush was the partner of Osama bin laden in oil companies i petty the US people who dont use there brain and just speak that inject by there media see the history before speaking on that issue
how about drawing your father mother photos and make fun of them if you don’t have respect and you think its noting wrong in that then there is you and animal both are same with out brain . Muslim extremist did not destroyed twin tower its the inside job don’t blame Muslim and if u ever went ot school or you literate them just ask to senior bush osama bin laden and both ware partner for oil companies and osama was hero for them at the time destroying Russia American was the supporter and providing them all the things

They (westerners) killed and again killed but we were able to gain our lives again, it is the feeling of despair which turns westerners into killing machines they invented most dangerous weapons for killing people, they invented affairs to keep Muslims occupied. Westerners feel clever themselves when they throw a stone in the silent water and Muslims do respond vigorously. It is a known truth that now a days westerners do not have a leadership and their youth is not interested in knowledge and education. West is going to fail; west has gained peak point. Future is for other nations now. This nightmare has destroyed the recreation of westerners. Now they have nothing to do except distract other energetic nations from the path victory. They know they cannot play anymore; they are trying to not let the play others also. It is the end time of their life style. Their people are seeking life in the east.
No… The current issue is freedom of speech.
“No… The current issue is freedom of speech.”
This is your imperialistic behavior which is materialized into deceiving tricks to fool people, otherwise you do not like people living on the earth other than you. You want slaves, we will not allow your malicious desires materialized at all.
“This is your imperialistic behavior which is materialized into deceiving tricks to fool people, otherwise you do not like people living on the earth other than you. You want slaves, we will not allow your malicious desires materialized at all.”
I am afraid that you are faults in your accusation here. It is about freedom of speech, the group did not even come together until an issue with censorship came up. See the group originally started after eight episode of South Park was censored.
Freedom of speech here in the US in titles, everyone to be heard or to express with images. Even if Other people feel insulted from those images. Or fill those images are blasphemy. Heck, even images on Facebook that blasphemy my own religion. Now I do not like that they have chosen to express themselves this way. However, they have every right to do so because of free speech. And free speech again is important to Americans.
And in this case “Draw Mohammed Day” Is people simply protesting against Islamists threaten violence that gives individuals who did get Mohammed. Granted there may be individuals who do it because of hatred and others who go a little overboard. However, it is still a protest. And in this case, this is how they chose to make their point. Personally, I do understand why they are trying to get their point across this way. And it is working Because Muslims are doing exactly what they expected.
Now if you are, I do not like this kind of stuff and feel insulted. It is us who must choose not to look at it. I do not need to go to Facebook and look at that page and at all the images. I can choose not to do so. Just as you can do the same thing.
Pakistan live there laws has the right to ban Facebook. However, when Pakistan did this. They actually justified the “Draw Mohammed Day” Protest. Not only that, but when people got word about Pakistan’s actions blocked Facebook It actually have the opposite effect, because now it drew people’s attention to “Draw Mohammed Day.” Increasing the amount of people who join the protest and the amount of people who end up getting software that lets them bypass government web filters and view the images.
So instead of a few random Muslims that may have seen these images. Now you have many more Muslims who end up seeing it either because of curiosity or because they want to go in and argue about what they have done. So in a sense The Pakistan government and the many Muslims who protested the “Draw Mohammed Day” protest actually made the group, much more powerful than it originally was. You can say they made the protests go virul.
Perhaps you should consider taking a lesson from the Christian playbook and have just ignored because what the Pakistani government and Muslims dead was make the problem even worse in the end. And now because they feel justified, no doubt this is going to become a yearly thing that would not just fade away. Because now the group as our power To affect government’s to take actions.
“…And free speech again is important to Americans…..” Haa haaa, so called freedom of speech is important for the people those do not allow freedom to live to others, by the way who is the only nation who has used nuclear bombing (two times), haaa haaaa, freedom of speech by people those are not allowing freedom of living of Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan and other Muslims…What a word you have for a hideout. You fight with some one in the streets of NY and blame to Afghanistan thousands of kms away just as you blame our Prophet for your talk show entertainment. What a fine minded you are westerners…
British historian David Irving has been found guilty in Vienna of denying the Holocaust of European Jewry and sentenced to three years in prison. where is freedom of speech ?
No it is not freedom of speech, according to the United States Constitution, and it would have been thrown out of court with anybody try to bring them up on charges of denying the Holocaust. However, this did not take place in the United States from your comment. It appears to place in Britain. So this would be British law. And I do not know how they define freedom of speech there, nor how they laws work. OR even anything about the case itself.
However here in the US freedom of speech would have protected David Irving Right to deny the Holocaust, if he should choose to do so. And I would have personally stood up for his right to deny the Holocaust. Even though I absolutely do not agree with anybody who denies the Holocaust.
Because like most Americans here, freedom of speech is very important to me. So much so that I often find myself taking sides. Other religions, and even atheists, at times because of that important to.
One thing, you may want to look into is the history of why In the United States we have freedom of speech. That way, you start to understand at least the Americans point of view on the importance of freedom of speech, and why Freedom of speech here is the way it is. Perhaps this will give you insight into why also, people will defend freedom of speech, with even their own lives.
When you understand this a dialogue can perhaps can be made between those behind Draw Mohammed Day and Muslims, and perhaps an agreement can be reached. That would make everybody happy, but that is not in a happen. If you are not willing to at least try and understand what they are really trying to do with Draw Mohammed Day.
Malcolm here Read this out this is you President barack obama Spoke
President Barack Obama recently spoke at a Holocaust Remembrance Day event. The event was put on by the National Holocaust Memorial Museum. He stated that he was committed to battling those who deny the atrocities of World War II.
“To this day, there are those who insist the Holocaust never happened, who perpetrate every form of intolerance,… “We have an opportunity as well as an obligation to confront these scourges… That is my commitment as president.”
How would you justify your own president ??
Did Obama say that he was going to place people in jail for denying the Holocaust? No he did not did he? He Clearly said that he was going to “confront these scourge” Which is something that I even do. I confront these people. Quite often, but despite the fact that I confront these people that. I also agree are scourges. I allow them to continue speaking, because over here, we do not deny somebody Freedom of speech without one hell of a good reason.
You are trying to make Obama sound like he is saying something that he does not in order to get him to fit into this view you have of America. This is being intellectually dishonest.
Oh and a little piece of information, not really relevant to the topic. I did not vote for Obama.
i think we should ask facebook to delete these kind of things from facebook then we will facebook back or facebook should apoligies and if they not so they will face a loss of billions
They have nothing to apologize for so good luck with that…
Horst Mahler was convicted Wednesday 25.02.09 in Munich of Holocaust denial and sentenced to six years in prison after a judge accused him of using the courtroom to spread his message of hate. there is noting to apologize then also pardon him why u put him in jail just he speak his own mind ??

You are absolutely right.
Was the person convicted here in the United States for denying the Holocaust? No… he was not. The laws in other countries, and how they define freedom of speech is different in here in the United States. “Draw Mohammed day” Is primarily the United States. Free speech issue.
So no Facebook has nothing to apologize for, because they have done nothing wrong. Facebook is not her sponsor will for another countries laws that kind of restrict how freedom of speech is allowed to take place in those countries. They are just allowing people in the United States to express themselves in accordance with how Freedom of speech, that is part of the United States Constitution.
And again as I said before, I disagree with any government that gives a prison sentence to anybody who denies the Holocaust and does so publicly, because that is not in a speech. And I will defend a Holocaust deniers, right to deny the Holocaust. Even though I completely and adamantly disagree with him.
So I agree with you, putting him in jail for speaking his mind is not freedom of speech. And I believe he can speak his mind. Just as everybody who had decided to participate in “Draw Mohommed Day” can express themselves in the way that they are.
“They have nothing to apologize for so good luck with that…”
Yes….KILLERS do not apologize at all…..
How are they killers? Show me a case where facebook stabbed or shot someone.
Disrespect for God or sacred things and blasphemy is worst than killing people, in this way you show that you have no respect for sentiments of a great section of people.
facebook stabbed minds, it allowed stabbers, it allowed people those back the killers of humanity in Asia in Africa.
you haven’t answer one of my post that there in your president spoke
I did do so. Read my comments above. Please do not make false claims about me.
what is the meaning of battling?
It is another way of saying fighting.
1st i would like to to tell you that there is noting personal between you and nor entire people living in USA nor i hate them not i have any intension to harm them we are here discussing about issue of freedom of speech .. tell me have u ever heard about any muslims that make fun of any other religion, untill unless they have replayed back if some one try to post write something that offend muslims or about islam . my point is only that always look both side of any thing ….
The felling is mutual. I hold no ill will aimed Muslims in general or the Islam world as a hole. I prefer to judge people as individuals not as groups.
“any muslims that make fun of any other religion,”
Actually yes I do I grew up with many Muslim in my area one has become a good friend Who I grow up along side with. His pants would often cooked me meals. When my favorite dishes was called ‘horish’ (I am probably not spelling that correctly) anyways getting back on track here he and his family as well as many other Muslims in the area had jokes about other religions. It was common place.
And I had seen quite a few who were on the “Draw Mohammed Day” facebook page that had been making fun of Christians and Jews. Apparently they were under the impression that it was a Christian and Jewish thing and not primarily an atheists protest. But to But everybody’s defense emotions were running high.
I understand your not happy with the situation I do not think anybody’s happy with the situation. And each side is doing what they believe is right. So unless there is some kind of dialogue between the two and a solution can be reached where people can be satisfied on all sides both sides will continue to fight and make things worse.
The best thing that any of us can do is attempt sympathize with the other side and set of example for everybody so that more people will join in this good behavior so that perhaps both sides will calm down long enough for a solution to be reached because chances are things are only getting worse for both side’s. So we cannot go around blaming The other side because it does not help we need to take responsibility for our acts in and try to solve the problems within our own groups before we try and solve the problems with other groups. Otherwise the problems will never end.
I do agree with you on to judge people as individuals not to what there race, religion ,country if some individual act no one have the right of blaming the entire country or religion, So as u said that you grew up with many Muslims what kind of joke let me explan you u never heard them joking about Jesus that you call son of god or God for Christine but we have different view about him he is as much respectable for all the muslims because he was also the holy messenger of Allah and due to that he is most respectable for the muslims as well as our holy prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H so im sure the joke was not about him? Here in Pakistan there are many Christine living freely I have many friends and we never discuss or argument about religion , we both have faith on our religion. So the misconception should be clear about and respect each other beliefs, but not to cross the limit line.. im sure u love your parent and respect them and you don’t like any one to make fun of them or if u have wife or girl friend to make fum of them in the entire world …so being muslims we love much more any body more them our parent we love our prophet Muhammad peach be upon him . then how could you think that they will tolerate any thing about him. So this is very sensitive to muslim if they heard about any thing against Our Holy Prophet Muhammad. If u open and see what going on all over the world with open eyes with out being one sided or to support you will see the difference ..
Its is Islam that should have been banned , and long long ago !!
and along with Christianity and all the other religions too !!! Only
then will we get some peace and freedom back in our lives . There is no Muhammad , there is no God , period .
Pinaki for people like you who think that no diffrent them animal who eat sleep and one day get dead no one care i feel no difference in you and an a street dog who just live life with out any brain eat and piss any where, i feel so sorry for some one like you and feel pitty on you maybe u dont have any parents not relative you dont know the meaing of life u just barcking like a dog and people get kick on your ass and u just move some other place
And khan sahib , you never eat or sleep or die ? as for your brain , we can see it and how it works !! my my !! :-)
Well I am so amazed , your allah and muhammad or whatever god ,
being so great and all powerful can’t strike down the whole of the
internet himself ? He needs the pakistani ministry-of-telecom to do his dirty work ? lol
I am Happy with The Ban

I think this is a stupid move. Pakistan once again shows that it is a radical country. If it had a problem with a certain part of Facebook, it should have brought it out to Facebook’s notice. It is not their fault. Also, if there is content on wikipedia which is false, then you can edit it. But, most of the content is true.
Dear ishan, i dont agree with on your comment.. calling pakistan a radical country i think really dont know the facts lat all i dont know where u from or if you have some knowledge about holocaust deny is a crime In EU even some one disagree it was not happen will get a jail sentence for 3 to 6 years and it happen… so if well civilized, moderate supporters of Freedom of speech countries impose jail sentence … and the other side they protect the Salman rushidi who wrote a book against our Holy prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) just because of freedom of speech then they should also condemn the act of publishing cartoons of Holy Prophet but not any of them do this so my question is that they are radical and have double standard.. why they keep again n again publishing that cartoons in different news papers and there is not Law for that ? so at least get some research before speaking on something or posting your comments..
Holocaust Denial is only a crime in Poland, not in the rest of the EU. Most of the EU countries allow freedom of speech, meaning that muslims can say/draw what they like, and so can non-muslims.
When you attack black people, they call it racism, when you attack Jewish people, they call it anti-Semetism. When you attack women, they call it sexism. When you attack homosexuality, they call it intolerance. When you attack your country, they call it treason. When you attack a religious sect, they call it hate speech.
But when the same west attack the Prophet (PBUH), Draw and Publish the Cartoons In News Papers
They want to call it freedom of speech!”
In April 2007 the European Union agreed to set jail sentences up to three years for those who deny or trivialize the Holocaust.
More recently, in response to the remarks of Bishop Richard Williamson, the Pope has proclaimed that Holocaust denial is ‘intolerable and altogether unacceptable’. Why where is Freedom of Speech?
President Barack Obama recently spoke at a Holocaust Remembrance Day event. The event was put on by the National Holocaust Memorial Museum. He stated that he was committed to battling those who deny the atrocities of World War II.
“To this day, there are those who insist the Holocaust never happened, who perpetrate every form of intolerance,… “We have an opportunity as well as an obligation to confront these scourges… That is my commitment as president.”
I totally agree with Ishan this is so stupid… the goverment bans what they cannot restrict because it will make people concious of the lack of freedom and rights they have… !
USA is the best country, we can say anything and dismiss anything that does not make any sense, like whatever the reason is to block youtube, wikipedia and facebook…
Freedom of choice allows you to believe in what you want to believe. Pinaki you are foolish to think that banning religion will bring peace so don`t talk such crap. If you want to try to convince people that it`s better to not believe in religion than do so by using reasoning and evidence that you support, not out right attacking people`s faith because you will only get people defensive. They are not going to listen to you unless you have convincing arguments and an ability to relate to people of faith from a humanistic perspective, which clearly you don`t possess if you think disrespecting another persons way of thinking and way of life will get you anywhere. Religion is here to stay and although it changes and some people convert while others denounce it, it has been around for over a thousand years and probably will be for a thousand more! .
I thank Khan Shahib and Malcolm for finally analyzing and opening dialogue without judging. I agree with you Khan that muslims take offensive imagery of the prophet Muhammed very personal as if it is their own family member who is publicly imaged. That is hurtful. I totally agree! But I also agree that America has a right to protect it`s freedom of speech that is part of their constitution – so there is a cultural clash here on what is considered acceptable and what is not.
To solve this issue, dialogue has to happen but even so, I wouldn`t gaurentee a resolution because in some ways Pakistani culture is very Islamic whereas American culture is very secular. I really didn`t appreciate the vulgar language and hatred from both sides in the above comments. Blasphemyisfun will say or do almost anything to irritate because ultimately heéshe imagines that those who follow religion are unintelligent and decieved. So heéshe is irritated by religion. Noone should take offense to that because your offense will just give himéher more fun. Unfortunately, on the other hand, the language used against Blasphemyisfun just illustrates bad temper and hatred on the part of some muslims who allow themselves to become equally intolerant and want to show their anger in such a way that is dangerous and completely ignorant (unislamic). I don`t think telling someone that they wish their mother gets fucked hard is very islamic at all!! Don`t pretend that you have genuine concern over the health of your religion when you yourself use language that shows you could give a shit whether Islam is followed properly or not. Frankly the mother-fucking comments show your immaturity.. and ultimately you are hurting muslims`image and thus how they are percieved by non-muslims.
I won`t ignore that perhaps Blasphemyisfun may have valid concerns and reasons for becoming athiest, but heéshe is also ignorant about believers who ultimately do no harm to anyone and follow a tradition out of their own personal choice. I was athiest at one time but I always respected, at least publicly, people who practice a religion. But as freedom of speech allows, amongst my friends I liked to make fun. But in no way does that mean i didn`t respect people who are religious. My mother is a devout Christian and my making fun of religion had it`s limits because I always admired her for her faith and interest in raising me with good manners and a good moral associated with her faith.
Blasphemyisfun just has bad manners to entertain himéherself and is not bettering the situation so please whoever you are, just leave this discussion and find fun in something that doesn`t misrepresent others from the freedom of speech side to this debate. But by your comments above, even I“m vulnerable to attack from you. Fortunutely you do not represent all athiests who can and do maintain a level of respect for choice in religion. They choose athiesm for themselves personally, not as a standpoint of ignorant criticism or for the sake of entertaining oneself as a shit-disturber!
For those genuine about this issue and not lookign for an excuse to be obnoxious, both sides are hurting to some degree! This issue frankly gives light to how different people sometimes think. I agree that Pakistanis (or other muslim populations involved in this debate) do not understand what freedom of speech is in Canada and US, and thus feel that it can threaten their society. Obviously many muslims can easily assume that the world doesn`t want to listen to them because they have been targeted as extremist by the world allover. My Pakistani, muslim friend didn`t like the reaction to join a group to ban the protest because he simply thought that by opposing the protest more attention was given to the offensive imagery and thus didn`t allow it to be ignored. However, given the number of people who reported it to facebook as something offensive to them, facebook didn`t respond to delete it. Facebook should follow it`s own business policies and realize how the Pakistan protest and ban on facebook is more about a lack of sensitivity to a large muslim population since facebook did not respond to the mass number of muslims that reported that event to be offensive. The ban is as much about this as it is actually about imagery of the prophet Muhammad being made and distributed.
As much as it is hurtful, however, I don`t agree that people should not be allowed to create fictional imagery that can offend some. The warning should be alerted to it`s audience that some content is offensive and give choice to viewers if they want to see it or not. Muslims, in general, would not make fun of any religion if they are familiar enough with the Quran that prohibits them from doing so… but it is the believers responsibility to respect or follow that. It is not the responsibility of a nation`s government, especially the US or Canada, to prevent offensive imagery to exist because ultimately their responsibility is to respect right of freedom of speech and hope people themselves take the responsibility of ignoring offensive imagery or language when it exist… or try to educate on how it is offensive so that such occurances may happen less.
Frankly there are trends in American and Canadian society to make fun of and use offensive imagery against religion (All religion – and usually Christianity not Islam), but it is done so as a means of making a point about how religion affects our thinking and lifestyle so strongly. It is the shock factor that entertains people because ultimately the imagery is not taken seriously or is ignored over time. In reality, the often assumed to be agnostics or athiests that create them have no care to censor what that say about religion. And it is their right. If their intent is to hurt muslims directly and to cause a stir among them, then certain limits would have to be considered and companies should perform their ethical duty to not allow such offensive attacks to occur against any group, religious or non-religious. When a business operates in a global network,, extra precaution should be taken. It must accept the voice of people saying something offends them seriously and try to be sensitive to all its users. They have a responsibility to all users and as others said, freedom of speech is defined somewhat differently in some countries but ultimately no matter how it is defined, it should protect its users not abuse them. This involves understanding cultural differences in what is offensive and what is not… and not acting solely on basis of how the average American would be offended or not.
I don`t see an easy solution. Maybe the government of Pakistan, in blocking facebook temporarily, did a good thing since they feel facebook wasn`t interested in how Pakistanis were offended. However, I certainly do not agree with censorship in Pakistan that allows it`s govrenment to block sites indefinitely that often have ability to bridge gaps and differences through dialogue. Youtube and facebook are excellent social means for socialépolitical activism so it is a shame that Pakistanis cannot access it to voice their opinions or that they think that blocking information is more important than learning and understanding through access of the world around them.
My Pakistanni friend is ultimately really upset about the prophet being represented in derogatory ways through imagery. I sympathize with him but yet am not comfortable with idea that the world should be prevented from creating images or speaking as they wish. Representing the prophet may be forbidden by Islam but ultimately it`s existence should not be simply shrewed as hatred towards Islam. Muslims are defensive, and for good reasons considering the current social climate that misunderstands and misrepresents Islam. Muslims in their faith and practice are very diverse, but on some things they are constant; one being that images of the prophet that appear intolerant, naked or pornographic, violent, or other will ultimately offend them if they are believing Muslims that love their prophet. Ultimately the more liberal or westernized muslims will try to ignore offensive content while muslims in places like Pakistan feel it is more important to prevent such events from happening altogether.
I think the protest, by using an event for drawing the prophet, is an insensitive one because those muslims who wish to ignore offensive language or imagery against Islam or the prophet are now forced to see many people knowingly doing something which hurts them. They are not extremists; who are a large number of muslims who feel a direct insult! The protest against threats from extremists should be done in a way such that muslims can participate themselves in order to support the cause against so called “Islamic“ extremism. Why create an event that muslims are not likely to support if they share interest in it`s goal of fighting extremism within their own religion!! Extremism in religion harms members of that religion who understand it better and practice it peacefully. Islam is a peace loving religion and anyone who says other are misguided by the extremists. Extremism is the violence or oppressive societal ideals that are used or formed uneducatedly in the name of Islam and hence should not inform our understanding of what it means to live as a muslim.
So this is a very important issue to address! If facebook promises to delete offensive events if an X number of people report it as offensive, than it should have deleted the Everyoe Draw Muhammad Day event. But if they take no responsibility over what gets posted, be it offensive or not, than the dialogue needs to happen and countries have a right to follow their own laws regarding blocking information or companies from entering their social networks… But in no way should people engage in hate propaganda against eachother, and nor should Pakistan government abuse it`s powers of censorship and ignore the choice individuals should have on what they want to expose themselves to or not on the internet. There should be no compulsion in Islam, and thus how one follows it. And thus banning all things on youtube, for instance, is a way of forcing people out of the global network that is made possible through sites like youtube on the internet.
I hope my message is welcomed as part of this discussion as this topic as been on my mind for past couple days and I`m working hard to understand it from all sides.
I do not agree with Pakistan government banning youtube or other websites. I believe that by taking away things on the internet, the government are forcing ignorance. As a mostly Islamic country I know some things are not allowed there which are allowed in my country. But ultimately the Quran dictates that there should be no compulsion in religion and taking away websites is, I think, a type of force to not be given the choice on what a person exposes themselves to or not on the internet. That should be their individual choice. And there are Christians and Hindus that live there also, why should they not have access to a site which didn`t offend them! They are Pakistanis also. And ultimately, not all muslims think alike or act alike. Ignore what you don`t like and discourage people from using or viewing sites that are offensive, but let the choice be there own. I think daily life involves choosing the lesser of two evils and I would define access to information sharing websites and social networking sites as more important to the cause of progress, including education and development than to ban sites altogether. Sure there is some content muslims find offensive or derogatory on these sites, but choosing to have them is better than not having them at all.
For you dont know me do read this and how would you think
By Saad Mustafa Warraich, Karachi – Pakistan
I had been banned from Facebook and my account had been disabled a night before Facebook was banned in Pakistan. Before all this happened, I visited the blasphemous page “Draw Muhammad Day” and the content on the page hurt me badly.
Once again a certain group of westerners called it the “freedom of expression” and went on to show extremism – something they always verbally disassociate themselves from.
As a response to this lunacy, I thought it best to find out how they respond to others’ right of freedom of expression – I created an Adolf Hitler page right away and it read, “To all those who think they can ridicule Islam in the name of freedom of expression and yet punish those who speak of the genius of Hitler”.
The comment on the wall read, “Let’s hit them where it hurts them the most”. Further I added some photos of the Fuhrer, Nazi Party and the Italian Footballer Paolo Di Canio who was banned and fined by FIFA two years ago for performing the “controversial” Roman Salute which according to him gave him a sense of belonging to his people.
Within an hour tens of people joined the Hitler page which was named “H | T L E R”. The very next time I tried to log in I found out that my profile had been disabled for ‘violation of Facebook Regulations’.
Facebook’s reply for my inquiry was as following (also shown in above screenshot):
Hi Saad,
After reviewing your situation, we have determined that you violated our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities. One of Facebook’s main priorities is the comfort and safety of our users.
We do not tolerate hate speech. Targeting people based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or disease is a serious violation of our standards and has resulted in the permanent loss of your account.
We will not be able to reactivate your account for any reason. This decision is final.

User Operations,

Now how is it that Hitler is termed as the most evil person in the history of mankind while those that bomb Muslims, commit heinous crimes in their countries, ridicule their Prophet and Quran and as a result hurt the sentiments of 1.2 billion Muslims are hailed as heroes? And I wonder why the victims of Holocaust are more important than victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Despite the protest of a large number of Muslims, Facebook has not removed the blasphemous page from the website.
According the statement issued by Facebook their policy is to withhold such content in countries where it is controversial. The statement specifically says that we do not remove Nazi content from Facebook because it is illegal only in a few countries. As two-faced statements go, this one takes the prize. Perhaps before issuing the statement the Facebook did not realise that words like “Adolf Hitler”, “Sieg Heil” and “Nazi” are not allowed to be used on Facebook to create new pages.
And if all this and the removal of Hitler page and the permanent deactivation of my profile isn’t enough, here is a testament to Facebook’s vile hypocrisy. The statement issued by Facebook on 20 May says, “We strongly believe that Facebook users have the freedom to express their opinions, and we don’t typically take down content, groups or pages that speak out against countries, religions, political entities, or ideas.”
While, in another instance, Facebook replied me in entirely different way. Excerpt and screenshot is given above.
Now these two conflicting statements speak volumes about the discrimination by the Facebook. It simply means that Facebook through its official statement to global media wants the world to believe that they are the torchbearers of freedom of expression and allow everyone to speak their minds out. On the other hand the face that individuals like me get to see is a much horrible one. It talks about hate and intolerance and all forms of so-called equality and unshakable resolve. While Facebook is portraying itself as the silent and innocent onlooker for the entire world, I wonder what gives them the right to remove a major chunk of my life from the web.
I don’t think Facebook should come up with any clarification statements for the Muslim world over what happened. It is clearer than crystal that as long as we are labelled as extremists, we are not going to enjoy the equal rights in this world. And those that are trying to play God love to label us that. While reporting the Facebook ban in Pakistan in different articles, guardian.co.uk mentions the brutality of Pakistan Army in Swat whileYahoo thinks it’s necessary to unveil Al-Qaida’s plans of attacks on Danish and Dutch football teams. It is a blatant attempt to criticize Pakistan for placing the ban, link the country to extremism and terrorism and thereby justifying this sacrilegious act of Facebook users.
If you were deeply hurt by visiting the “Draw Muhammad Day” page on Facebook, then you should not have visited it in the first place. That was your own fault.
I agree in theory that facebook should not have deleted your Hitler page. But in reality, a person like Hitler (who murdered millions of men, women and children) should be offensive to every human being who considers themselves to be good, peaceful people. I think facebook could be forgiven for considering a simple drawing of a person to be less offensive than the idea of actively supporting Hitler.
Please realise that Christians draw pictures of Jesus all the time. The idea that a drawing of a religious leader could be offensive is only a Muslim concept. Non-muslims have no concept of such drawings being offensive.
So you mean to say that you if some one make funny photos of your family your parent, you wife or girlfriend and publish it in facebook or in news paper it wont bother you at all ? all you have to do is not to see the photo and? the 1st thing it was not my poge it was some other person who was banned by facebook but the same time the page of draw photos of muhammad was still not removed. this is the double stander of facebook
But we are not talking about pictures that deliberately insult Muhammad, that is not what “Draw Muhammad Day” was about. In Islam it is offensive to draw or look at any picture of Muhammad, but it is unreasonable to apply that rule to non-Muslims.
If other facebook users were offended by pictures of the Niqab, would it be reasonable to expect facebook to remove all pictures of muslim women wearing the Niqab?
We are talking about pictures so the draw Muhammad day what to make photos of Muslims Holy prophet was not it was? no one have right to insult any other person will u ignore if some one insult you make fun of you? im sure No you will not allow any one to insult you or make fun of you, so how your are expecting to the muslim that they love there holy prophet more then any thing in the world to tolerate and accept . 2nd holocaust is not a religion issue only and in the war many people was killed but why Jews dont wanted to hear or not tolerate if some one dont agree on the 6 Ml jews was killed every one have the right to believe on what they believe, if some one dont agree on that 6 ml jews, there are hundred of people been arrested, fined, imprisoned – even kidnapped! just only they dont believe on and try to argument on holocaust all of them was christine but get punishment do you not think it was unreasonable for them rule to get them in jail ?
Blasphemyisfun: Sorry.. forgot you were the one that posted the wikipedia article that I found informative. Actually, I think at times you are being quite rude but I might be mixing your comments up with someone else`s as well since it took so long for me to write my previous comments. I think I might have been directing my comments at Harris.
I wish some of you would stop assuming you can speak for all Pakistanis just because you yourself are Pakistani and you don`t know any Pakistani personally that disagrees with you. I am not Pakistani but I do know some Pakistanis who are not in support of the ban on youtube and other sites. They only are supporting a temporary ban of facebook but even then they said this could have been done at an individual level by personally boycotting it.
let me just clear you that this is not the issue of pakistani this the entire muslim world voice if you try to search you would find that each part of the world it was condom where muslims living and as much as i know that most of muslims have deactivate there accounts from facebook because of that draw prophet day. Govt banned the you tube and face-book reaction form the people..
Let me show you all a picture of freedon of expression and biased nature of western rules and law. These examples that I am coding are based only on the data of 2010 on where various channels, websties were banned. And then it can be decided independently that is it wrong or right..or is it even against the law of western society..
15 may 2010, three persons including one seventeen years old boy were arrested for writin slogans against jews.. 5 spectators arrested from poland in a football match who marked the symbol of death on jewesh sign..3 may 2010 Norway banned AL-rehma TV channel for speaking against some religion, this channel was banned in France as well, 16 April 2010 ,German city of Regan berg,a person was punished for saying in an interview that he don’t believe on mass murder or holocast of jews in second worldwar and this sentence was decided in 50 minutes.
There are plenty of such examples. I do not want to say that talking against jews or any culture is justified in any way, nor we muslims are taught in a manner to insul the sacred personallities of prophets of jews or christians, as they are also very sacred for us as well, and we can not be muslim if we disgrace and don’t respecct them.
This is some thing that a common muslim with even practicing or non-practicing can not bear..and there is no second thought in any sect or any where in islamic world.
So please let us live in peace..
Thanks
pakistani dynsty with the help of saudi Traitors want to make pakistan.THE 2ND NORTK ORIA. simple ,dont read, dont see, dont look and dont think.
Summery of response:
It seems, Pakistan is far behind to Modern world and Muslims are still living in Stone Age. Let me tell you “it is age of reason not religion”. If you will never allow others to criticize your religion it will never evolve and it is becoming problem for you and non-muslims too. It seems Islam can‘t stand on open scrutiny therefore Muslims don’t allow it be criticized. Open it for debates on your countries, either It will rule the world or it will become the History.
Keep in mind “freedom of speech” on religions is pith in developed countries(Europe and American). They have left behind the religions in 17th century, most of them don’t take religion too serious so are progressing in this era. “Freedom of speech“ is non-negotiable in Modern World.
When you ask for respect for Islam and your Prophet. You forget that prophet Muhammad himself destroyed idles in Mecca in the first place without caring other religions, Taliban in Afghanistan did the same way but never was such response. When you burn flags of other counties, is that not offensive for their nation.
Through out the Islam expansion period Muslims destroyed other religions not with preaching with sword too.
When Hindus ask you to not eat cows because it is like God of some Hindus, you laugh at them. This is the way you respect other religions.
“Islam is religion of peace and Tolerance” is a slogan from moderate Muslims but Muslims never show any tolerance; see how your react in Pakistan showing tolerance and peace.
Instead of asking other to read Quran and Hadith, better read it yourself first in translation. Which state that: ”you can beat your wife.” ‘Earth is flat” “Star are made to make sky beautiful” ”Muhammad married 9 years girls while he was 52 years old” “Kill the infidels” ”Jews can’t be your friend (even there was no Israel)” “Universe was created in seven days” “Islam orders kill the apostate” There are many more contradiction of science and human right with Islam. I know Islam is not bad but these are the issues which need to be discussed. When your religion causes “suicide bombing” “hijacking plans” “killing Journalists”.
After having all these issue how world can put it above criticism even there is no exception for other religions.
Only the problems with Muslims are they attached with religions too firmly and never negotiate on this. Please think that your religion can be false. Keep in mind that all religions are man made. Take them seriously in every wake of life is problem now because they were make centuries ago. “Peace””Love all humanity not only muslims brothers also Jews can be your brothers if you love them too.”
mran seem too look like such a stupid who totally illiterates and seems to under the influence of so called West moderate high lighting the news that against the muslims .. your should be ashamed on your self by saying something before you know the fact or history im so sure that on what basis he giving that statement let me show him Mirror
he’s talking about freedom of speech in (Europe and America )
there is a 6 years jail sentence just for if your are not belive on that holocaust was true or if u want to investigate. That is not a religion issue but the so called modran countries are not wanna hear or don’t want any debate on that its Illegal where is the freedom of speech in Modern world?
Since how long u know the Taliban ? are u just watching the news these the same Taliban was called mujahidean at the time of Russia attacked the Afghanistan
Money connections between Bush Republicans and Osama bin Laden go way back and the political and economic connections have remained unbroken for 20 years.
The mujahideen were significantly financed and armed (and are alleged to have been trained) by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) during the administrations of Carter[5] and Reagan, and also byl Western European countries. One of the CIA’s longest and most expensive covert operations was the supplying of billions of dollars in arms to the Afghan mujahideen militants. The arms included Stinger missiles, shoulder-fired, antiaircraft weapons that they used against Soviet helicopters and that later were in circulation among terrorists who have fired such weapons at commercial airliners. Osama bin Laden was among the recipients of U.S. arms.[6] Between $3–$20 billion in U.S. funds were funneled into the country to train and equip troops with weapons, including Stinger surface-to-air missiles.
So after that the become the talibans and terrerost how come? At the time the soviet union attacked afganistan they were friends all the supports .. you bustard . speaking about modern world. I don’t know from where your have get the information that if u r a muslim u knew that there is notting like that. Mosther fucker. Go fuck your self before speaking the things you even don’t know. World war 11 Hitlor was not the muslim he was Christine but they called him nazi what the fuck Nazi why u not call him he Christine ??
You’re a piece of shit and your parent are ashamed of your self if they read this . don’t give bull shit here .. America is the one who used the atomic bombs in japan killed million people why you don’t talk about this ? u son of a bitch hypocrite go fuck your self
you son of bitch read this an go fuck your self mother fucker

YouDon`tKnowMe …… i think i knew u… We are all happy by leaving stupid FACEBOOK, it was nothing just a waste of time.
One thing is clear though .. the people of pakistan well deserve the government they got ; – )
We urge our Government and Supreme Court to ban Facebook forever in Pakistan. Freedom of speech does not mean that they go on hurting Muslim’s sentiment. Freedom of speech is just a theory, if one say that all people should walk naked from tomorrow on so will they support that statement, similarly there are some boundries that should not be crossed when it comes to any religion. In Pakistan media is biased and is exploiting issues. Geo Tv is working for westren interests, they mother fuckers are highly paid and they get commissions for running news which are in the interest of west, they even do not hide our national issues. During the Musharraf tenure GEO TVsupported the stand of Musharraf against Dr. Abdul Qadir Khan, what the hell is this? Why GEO TV can not hide our national issues and gives a green signal to all media persons to do as it does. Kamran Khan a son of bitch who even do not know how to talk is earning in millions. Kamran Khan had said wikipedia is banned too but when i went to see whether its banned or not so i found it was running and still running, Kanran Khan of GEO TV just wanted to create panic among masses. shame on you Kamran Khan you must had checked things before you started talking like fools.
I love my Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).
We all Muslims hate facebook and its criminal freedom of speech. mother fuckers facebook. facebook CEO and team go n fuck ur selves up.

Good move Pakistan. You made the correct decision in the fight against free thought and evidence based reasoning. Access to open forums of information can only be damaging to Islam since its all made up anyway. The reason why Islam is the largest growing religion is because the West are not persecuted for free thought and subsequently growth rates of Christianity have slowed with its rate reducing every day.
