Round Up of Session 2 at TC50: New Frontiers (Updating)

iTwin

iTwiniTwin is a device that splits into two devices. You can plug it into a PC (no Mac?) and a folder pops up where you can copy files to. The other device you plug into another PC. Now the two folders are connected. It offers bi-rdirectional file sharing all over the world. The whole thing is encrypted and very easy to use. Like having a very long cable between two PCs.

Pretty expensive at $99. I also don’t see why you wouldn’t be better off with a USB sticky, or two. Not available yet and they are looking for funding. Judges don’t seem too interested and remark that there are too many contenders in this space. Like a little start-up called Microsoft, or even Apple.

iMo

iMoiMo transforms your iPhone into a PC Game Controller. They start of with loud music (eye of the tiger?) and a guy in a leather bike suit playing a game that doesn’t seem to work. It is sooo painful when you go all out and your demo doesn’t work. Better go lowkey and have a good product than have a show element and a product that doesn’t work.

Going to the next demo first. iMo gets a second chance later.

FluidHTML

FluidHTMLFluidHTML started as a mark-up language for Flash. They are showing us actual HTML code now. Oops, server not found error. Hotdamn! Lots of technical issues on stage today!

So what FluidHTML does is generate basic HTML files for all your Flash content. You will be able to deep-link, use the browser back-button and mark-up everything like you would with usual HTML. Sounds like a no-brainer to me and something you would want to install with every Flash website. In fact, why doesn’t Adobe offer this?

Okay, with the 3D part they kind of lost me. Apparently you can also build 3D stuff with FluidHTML. The jury wants to know if all of this isn’t becoming obsolete with HTML5. FluidHTML thinks Flash will always stay around and HTML5 won’t be implemented until 2014. Is that true? Listening to them now I get the idea that you can also develop or design Flash content via FluidHTML. I think. Not very clear.

Next start-up appears to bring the second women entrepreneur to the stage. Not that it matters much but I just realized that. We have had approximately 16 entrepreneurs on stage so far with 2 of those being female. Will keep score of that.

Toybots Woozees

ToybotsIt is a ‘revolutionary new gaming platform’ according the the presenter. Sounds like a multi-player, multi-platform, multi-player and multi-buzzword-using multi-thing. The toy they are showing contains a motion senser and can be used as the actual controller for games. “Infinite play value”? I love the lingo these people use.

The judges seemed to like this one so maybe you should just check their website:

Spawn Lab

Spawn Labs is like Slingbox for Video Gaming according to its CEO on stage now. Install SpawnPlayer on your laptop and you will be able to play any games on any computers.

Yes, even your friends computers if they decide to share them with you. Leave your console at home but access it from anywhere. This is extremely cool! You can also record and share gameplay with your friends.

I wonder how game companies feel about this. Theoretically this would mean you could buy one console with several friends and load it with games. Of course, you can only play one game at a time and someone would have to insert a new DVD in your console to switch from game to game.

Will be available for $199 today on their website:

Clicker

ClickerClicker is presented as the ‘Ultimate guide to internet television’. They start with a nice tidbot of information: 35% of all Americans have now watched TV online. Current tools for finding shows don’t seem to work well. Clicker offers a clean interface for finding television shows. Want to watch Seinfeld online? Yes, you can find it with Clicker. Only 6 episodes are online but Clicker finds them. Now in private beta but you can get an invite at their site.
