Amazon launches Simple Email Service, a bulk-email service for AWS customers

Amazon has launched a new feature called Simple Email Service for its Amazon Web Services customers, giving them the opportunity to send bulk-emails at low cost via their existing applications hosted on Amazon’s EC2 platform.

The platform is aimed at businesses and developers who would like to be able to send large volumes of emails from their web services, without having to employ an in-house solution or to utilize a third-party solution such as Mailchimp.

Amazon notes that its Simple Email Service requires no long-term commitment or minimum spend, businesses are able to use the service for free for certain levels of email, beyond that low fees are levied for the number of emails and associated data transfers.

Calling upon the technologies and infrastructure it employed for its own customer email platform for Amazon.com, Amazon allows developers to call upon its email service via a simple API, scanning outgoing mail to ensure that the email content meets with ISP standards. Bounce backs, failed and successful delivery attempts, as well as SPAM complaints are also fed back to users.

Prices start at $0.10 per thosuand messages sent, with up to 2,000 messages sending for free each day, as long ast they are sent via Amazon EC2 or AWS Elastic Beanstalk.
