The UK’s official album charts will finally begin to reflect plays on streaming music services like Spotify and Deezer from the start of next month. The Official Singles Streaming Chart was introduced in 2012.
As of February 23, online album streams will be counted. The first Official Album Chart to incorporate the figures will then be published by OfficialCharts.com on March 1. Data will be collected from plays via Spotify, Deezer, Napster, Google Play, o2 Tracks, Rara, Rdio and Xbox Music.
It’s certainly a long overdue move for a company that touts itself as the official place to take the pulse of the UK’s musical taste – streaming has been popular with UK users for a long time already and is showing no signs of slowing.
