OnePlus inks first carrier partnership with Malaysia’s Maxis, handsets in-store from tomorrow

Yesterday, OnePlus announced that it was ditching its irritating invite system for its OnePlus One smartphone, and today it has confirmed that it’s signed its first carrier agreement with the Malaysian operator Maxis.

While it’s good news for Malaysia, the company is yet to tie-up similar agreements with operators in Europe or the US. Nonetheless, it’s an important milestone for a young smartphone brand looking to properly establish itself against big-name rivals. The deal also means that it’s the first time that OnePlus smartphones will be sold in physical retail stores.

From tomorrow, a 64GB OnePlus One will be available to buy in Maxis shops from RM1199 ($330) SIM-free, or for RM859 on a MaxisONE plan. And, while you might need to queue still, you won’t need an invite.
