YouTube could be getting a full redesign in the not so distant future, adding a Google bar along the top of the page and a fresh look that closely resembles the company’s aspiring social network, Google+.
Earlier today OMG! Chrome! picked up on a post shared by Chand Hamal Thakuri over on Google+, which explained that he could now see and interact with a potential site redesign.
The predominantly white and grey colour scheme is the most noticeable change, removing the contrasting black bar currently used for user subscriptions, suggested channels and what is trending over on YouTube located on the left-hand side.
Readers may also notice that the profile picture of each YouTube user is now much smaller, and also that the central column for video uploads now stretches further upwards (no banner advert, at least for now).
Although YouTube has undergone a lot of small design changes over the last couple of the years, it seems that Google isn’t content just yet. The new look is familiar because of its similarities with Google+; the company has been keen to push video sharing and account integration across both platforms, so it’s perhaps not surprising to see the two sites blended even further together.
The addition of the Google bar along the top is an interesting move, as it will no doubt try and keep users within the company’s plethora of products and services. There is already quite a lot packed in the menu bar already (see the ‘more’ tab to get an idea of what they can’t fit in anymore), but YouTube will most likely stay in clear view.
