Yes, Twitter is down, but they’re working on it [Updated]

If you’re a Twitter user, you may have noticed a site disruption today. When I say disruption, I mean that the stream sputtered and finally ground to a halt, T.co links are broken and even the web edition is out of order.

Well, rest assured that Twitter knows something is wrong, and is working to fix the problem. The service has acknowledged the problem on its Status page:

If you just can’t wait to use Twitter, you can always try the Mobile Portal here, which always seems to stay up during these outages, though even it is being a bit finicky today. You’re welcome.

Twitter last experienced a major outage like this around one month ago. Previously, it had been rock solid for some time, mostly eliminating its old reputation for instability. We’ll keep you updated on the problem in this post.

Tracking service Apica says that the outage began at 11:23 AM EST and stayed down until 12:15 EST.

The site’s services appear to have returned at this point, but Apica says that its monitoring of the Twitter homepage continues to show some minor blips.
