There have been a few interesting stories this week including Google’s offline advertising onslaught for both their Chrome browser and YouTube services. It’s in the same week that the browser has overtaken Safari in the browser market share stakes, strengthening their position online even further with their OS still to come next year.
O2 completed successful trials of 4G data services in the UK which I’m sure will please many smart phone users on a lengthy O2 contract, with potential speeds of around 150mbps on the cards.

Google advertises Chrome with giant UK newspaper ad. Google is advertising its Chrome browser using a wrap-around cover on today’s Metro newspaper in the UK. The ad’s front page, continuing the theme of the video ad Google launched last week, describes Chrome as “A fast, new browser. Made for everyone”. (Full Article)
What’s Your Single Of The Decade? Vote Now! A new music based web-app has launched which allows you to nominate your very favourite single of the Noughties. The ‘Single Of The Decade’ site is a large-scale collaborative project from the Manchester UK based Cahoona team which lets visitors suggest their own tracks for inclusion or vote for tracks already included on the list. Infographic: Is Your Country Embracing Social Media? The UK was featured in the recent social media infographic produced by TrendStream. The graphic charts percentage usage of each form of social interaction against total access, country by country. The statistics are based on the data generated by an interview with 32,000 web users conducted by LightSpeed Research. (Full Article)
BBC Opens Up Learning Material to UK License Payers. In a ground-breaking move the BBC has opened up an archive of learning material previously only available to staff. CoJo has the potential to become an invaluable resource to journalists, students and teachers. The site offers some revealing insights into the role of a BBC journalist, with sections dedicated to Skills, The Law, Ethics & Values. (Full Article)
O2 Successfully Completes 4G Trial in the UK. O2 UK and telecommunications solutions provider Huawei has announced successful completion of a live trial of Long Term Evolution (LTE) network equipment in the UK. LTE is the project name of a new high performance air interface for cellular mobile communication systems providing the infrastructure for what is known as 4G. The trial was tested in the Slough area, the headquarters of O2 in the UK with download rates of 150Mbps achieved – ten times faster than the fastest 3G networks. (Full Article)
