It turns out that about 50 percent of what we do day-in, day-out is done with little or no conscious thought. Some companies have succeeded in turning this behavior into habit.
Every time we are unsure about something, we Google it. When we feel sad, we check our Facebook account. When we want to capture a moment in time, we use Instagram. What do all those companies that succeeded to create a habit out of using their products have in common?
We’ve just added Nir Eyal’s talk at last year’s TNW Europe Conference to our TNW Video site and you can watch it right now for free.
Nir, the author of the book Hooked: How to Build Habit Forming Products, describes a pattern that is endemic to all habit making technologies as “connecting the user’s problem to your solution with enough frequency to form a habit”.
The goal for all designers and developers is to create a behavior-triggering product using both external and internal triggers. What are those? And why do social networks use newsfeeds? Watch the video to find out.
