Vine for Android adds a capture widget, new camera tools, revining capability, channels and more

Twitter released an update today to Vine for Android that helps keep it in line with its iOS counterpart. Android users will find the app now contains new camera tools, the ability to revine someone’s post, channels, and more.

Last week, Vine for iOS was updated in a move that Twitter said was the “biggest update” yet. At that time, the appropriate Android update would be available in the following week. Well, that time has arrived. So let’s take a look at the changes.

Perhaps the one thing that makes this update unique from its iOS counterpart is the addition of a capture widget. With this option, users can tap on the camera and start recording right from their home screen — saving critical seconds to capture that quick video.

Vine for Android also features new camera tools, which means the main feature of the app includes new grid, focus, and ghost (letting you see your previous shot) tools to help compose a better 6-second video. Furthermore, just like last week’s update, the ability to revine someone’s video is now supported — just tap on a video to share it with your followers.

Channels are also included in this update, meaning that users can submit posts or browser from the Explore screen. Through this enhanced discovery mechanism, users can look through videos about Comedy, Art & Experimental, Cats, Dogs, Family, Beauty & Fashion, Food, Health & Fitness, Nature, Music, News & Politics, Special FX, Sports, Urban and ‘weird’.

Vine’s Twitter account sent out a Tweet with the update, but a quick glance at the Google Play store shows that it’s not quite ready to download, but it should be there soon.

Update: We just spotted the new release in the Google Play store. Here is the complete change log:

  • CHANNELS: Browse or submit your posts to 15 new channels
  • REVINING: Share your favorite posts with all your followers on Vine in one tap
  • FAST CAPTURE WIDGET: Instantly jump to the Vine camera right from your home screen
  • NEW CAPTURE TOOLS: Shoot with style using the new focus, grid, and ghost tools
  • Other updates:
    • A new mute button in the menu
    • Performance improvements
